1. Kimetsu no Yaiba
Since his father’s death, Tanjirou Kamado has been responsible for taking care of his family. Tanjirou makes the decision to sell charcoal in a near by village one day to boost his income. It is late at night when Tanjirou returns, forcing him to seek refuge in the home of an eccentric man who warns him about flesh-eating demons lurking in the woods at night.
He returns home the next day to see a shocking sight: his entire family has been slaughtered. Worse, his sister Nezuko has been turned into a violent demon, leaving him the lone survivor. Ichigo Kurosaki is your typical high school student—until his family is invaded by a Hollow, an evil spirit bent on devouring human souls. He then meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper who is injured while protecting Ichigo’sIchigo’s family from the Hollow. In order to save his family, Ichigo quickly accepts Rukia’sRukia’s offer to take her powers, and consequently, he becomes a Soul Reaper.

Just as things appear to be going badly for the god, Hiyori Iki, a middle school girl, allegedly saves Yato from a vehicle accident by taking the hit for him. Although she survives, the incident has caused her spirit to loosen, allowing it to escape her body. Hiyori demands that Yato return her to normalcy, but she reluctantly decides to help him in his search when she learns that he’ll need a new partner. And, with Hiyori’sHiyori’s help, Yato’sYato’s fortunes may be changing for the better.
6. Ao no Exorcist
Humans and demons, as well as their respective worlds, Assiah and Gehenna, are two sides of the same coin. Possession is the only way to move between the realms, just like in ghost stories. However, the ruler of Gehenna, Satan, is unable to locate a suitable host and is so imprisoned in his realm.
He sends his son in an effort to conquer Assiah, hoping for him to develop into a vessel that the demon king may possess.
Ao no Exorcist follows Rin Okumura, who looks to be a typical, somewhat troublesome teenager until he is ambushed by demons one day. 8. Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu
They came out of nowhere: parasitic aliens who descended upon Earth and quickly infiltrated humanity by burrowing into the brains of unsuspecting victims. These insatiable beasts take entire control of their hosts and can morph into a number of forms in order to feed on unsuspecting prey.
Shinichi Izumi, a sixteen-year-old high school student, is attacked by one of these parasites, but instead of taking over his brain, it lands in his right hand.
The parasite, now known as Migi, is unable to relocate and must rely on Shinichi to exist. As a result, the two are forced into an uncomfortable coexistence and must defend themselves against hostile parasites attempting to eliminate their species’ new threat.
9. Mob Psycho 100
Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama, an eighth-grader, has tapped into his inner wellspring of psychic prowess at a young age. When he realizes how dangerous his abilities are, though, the strength quickly becomes a disadvantage. Mob has opted to suppress his ability, and the only time he uses it now is to impress his longtime crush, Tsubomi, who rapidly becomes tired of the same tricks.
To regain control of his abilities, Mob enlists the assistance of Arataka Reigen, a con artist who pretends to be a psychic and profits from Mob’sMob’s abilities. Exorcising evil spirits on demand has become an everyday occurrence for Mob.

11. Kemono Jihen
Kohachi Inugami, an occult detective, arrives in a remote village in the Japanese countryside, instructed by a local inn’s hostess to look into a series of incidents involving rotting and mutilated cattle bodies that have started emerging for no apparent cause.
Inugami spots a strange young boy working in the fields while surveying. The young farmhand, shunned by his peers and dubbed “Dorotabou” for his foul odor, is startled that anyone would be interested in him.
Inugami, piqued by curiosity, enlists Dorotabou’sDorotabou’s assistance in the investigation, despite the locals’ scorn. Unbeknownst to Dorotabou, this inquiry will open up a bizarre new world for him—one in which beast-like beings known as Kemono coexist with humans—while also giving his life new meaning.
12. Kyoukai no Kanata
Mirai Kuriyama is the last remnant of a Spirit World warrior clan that can use their blood to battle. As a result, Mirai is tasked with tracking down and eliminating “youmu,” monsters said to embody negative human emotions. Mirai comes across Akihito Kanbara, a rare half-breed of youmu in human form, while deep in thought on the school roof.
She plunges her blood saber into him in a frenzy, only to discover that he is an immortal being. Mirai repeatedly tries to murder Akihito in order to improve her self-confidence as a Spirit World warrior, and the two forms an unplanned friendship from then on. Akihito eventually persuades her to join the Literary Club, which also includes Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase, two more powerful Spirit World warriors.
However, as the group’s bond grows stronger, so does the youmu around them. As the release of the most powerful youmu, Beyond the Boundary, approaches, their misadventures will quickly turn into a war for survival.
13. Mieruko-chan
Miko Yotsuya’sYotsuya’s eyes fill with tears as she stares at a spot on her phone, oblivious to yet another frightening, horrific monster staring her down, uttering the chilling words, “Can you see me?” Miko had previously liked her quiet high school years, with late-night horror shows serving only as a source of fun. Since one fateful day, she has been the only person aware of the unseen creatures walking freely among humans.
Miko makes a brave decision: she will never, under any circumstances, identify the dreadful specters’ presence. Even though she pretends they don’t exist, she can see how they affect those around her, especially her best friend, the vibrant and lovely Hana Yurikawa.
Miko makes every effort to stay on top of her schoolwork and avoid any potentially dangerous circumstances in order to shield her family from the monsters’ annoyances—even when they make her cry.
14. Black Clover
Asta and Yuno were both abandoned at the same church on the same day. They grew up together, learning about the “Wizard King”—a title given to the kingdom’s best magician—and vowing to compete for the position of future Wizard King. As they grew older, though, the obvious contrast between them became apparent. While Yuno can use magic with incredible force and control, Asta is unable to do so and is desperately trying to awaken his powers through physical training.
When they reach the age of 15, Yuno receives a magnificent Grimoire with a four-leaf clover, but Asta receives nothing. Yuno is then attacked by someone named Lebuty, who is only interested in Yuno’sYuno’s Grimoire. Asta launches an attack on Lebuty, but he is outmatched.
Despite being hopeless and on the edge of defeat he finds the strength to persevere when he hears Yuno’sYuno’s voice. Asta is awarded a five-leaf clover Grimoire, dubbed the “Black Clover,” which grants him the ability to defeat Lebuty, leading him to rage. A few days later, the two friends set out into the world with the same goal: to become the Wizard King!
15. Enen no Shouboutai
A chaotic phenomenon, Spontaneous Human Combustion, has afflicted humanity for years, changing regular people into flaming, ferocious beings known as Infernals at random. The first generation of Human Combustion accounts were infernals, but the second and third generations were pyrokinetic—people blessed with the ability to harness and control their flames while remaining human.
The Tokyo Armed Forces, Fire Defense Agency, and Holy Church of Sol created the Special Fire Force to battle the Infernal menace and find the source.
Shinra Kusakabe, a young third-generation pyrokinetic known as Devil’sDevil’s Footprints because of his explosive ability to shoot his feet at whim, joins the colorful Special Fire Force Company 8. Shinra is resolved to become a hero who protects those threatened by flame terror fulfilling the brigade’s duty to extinguish fiery Infernals and lay their souls to rest.
But this isn’t the hero’s game Shinra had in mind. The Fire Force is a jumble of feuding brigades, odd Infernal sightings are becoming more common across Tokyo, and a secret organization claims to have answers to the mysterious fire that killed Shinra’sShinra’s family 12 years ago.
16. Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho
Yuusuke Urameshi, a fourteen-year-old thug, spends his days skipping school and causing trouble for the adults in his life. Yuusuke participates in street brawls with competitor Kazuma Kuwabara and mocks his childhood friend Keiko Yukimura on a daily basis. Yuusuke, who is filled with self-loathing and the burden of an alcoholic mother, makes a split-second decision to save a small child from an oncoming car, losing his life in the process.
Botan, Yuusuke’sYuusuke’s spirit guide, intervenes, allowing him to witness how the people in his life respond to his death; he is saddened by the emotional turmoil that his death causes his mother, Keiko, and even Kuwabara. In addition, the Spirit World ruler’s son, Koenma, offers him the chance to return to life because of his noble death.
Yuusuke is hired as a “Spirit Detective” by Koenma and is tasked with solving a series of progressively difficult paranormal mysteries. Yuusuke improves and uses his fighting skills by battling and befriending demons such as the beautiful Kurama and the hostile Hiei. However, as dark forces march across the Underworld, Yuusuke fights alongside his companions to defend everything he took for granted.
17. Bungou Stray Dogs
Atsushi Nakajima’sNakajima’s orphanage has been tormented by a mysterious tiger for weeks, which only he appears to be aware of. The 18-year-old is abruptly expelled from the orphanage, leaving him hungry, homeless, and wandering the streets due to his suspected involvement in the strange incidents.
Atsushi saves an eccentric man named Osamu Dazai from drowning while starving on a riverbank. Dazai, a strange suicide enthusiast and supernatural detective, has been looking into the same tiger who has been tormenting the boy.
They solve the mystery with Dazai’sDazai’s partner Doppo Kunikida, but it puts Atsushi in a difficult situation. As strange events unfold, Atsushi is pushed into joining their firm of supernatural investigators, where he and his numerous intriguing coworkers take on bizarre cases that the police cannot handle.
18. Beelzebub
Ishiyama High is a delinquent-dominated school where continual violence and disorder are the norms. Nevertheless, there is one unwritten rule: don’t cross Tatsumi Oga, Ishiyama’sIshiyama’s most ruthless fighter, a first-year student.
Oga is walking along a riverbed when he comes across a man drifting down the river. After being rescued by Oga, the man splits down the middle, revealing a baby who crawls onto Oga’sOga’s back and instantly bonds with him. Though he is unaware of it, this child is named Kaiser de Emperana Beelzebub IV, or “Baby Beel” for short—the Demon Lord’sLord’s son!
Oga is also confronted by Hildegard, Beel’sBeel’s demon maid as if finding the future Lord of the Underworld wasn’t difficult enough. They try to raise Baby Beel together, but being surrounded by juvenile delinquents and demonic powers, they may be in for a bigger challenge than they think.
19. Tokyo Ghoul
Tokyo is under siege by flesh-eating “ghouls” who appear to be human and blend in with the local population. Ken Kaneki, a reserved college student, buries his nose in his books to avoid news about the growing crisis. When an attractive woman named Rize Kamishiro approaches him and asks him out on a date, his solitude is shattered.
Kaneki discovers while walking Rize home that she isn’t as sweet as she appears and that she has tricked him. After a tragic struggle, he wakes up in a hospital to learn that his life was saved by transplanting the now deceased Rize’sRize’s organs into his own body.
Kaneki’sKaneki’s body begins to transform into a frightening human-ghoul hybrid. Kaneki clings to his humanity in the evolving bloody conflict between society’s new monsters and the government agents who hunt them as he embarks on his new dreadful journey.
20. Soul Eater
The Death Weapon Meister Academy is situated in Death City, which is led by the Shinigami—Lord Death himself. Its objective is to raise “Death Scythes” for the Shinigami to utilize against the various evils of the fantastical world.
These Death Scythes, however, are born from human hybrids with the ability to transform their bodies into Demon Weapons, and only after they’ve devoured the souls of 99 evil beings and one witch.
With his straight-laced wielder or meister, Maka Albarn, Soul Eater Evans, who only seems to care about what’s cool, aspires to become a Death Scythe. The contrasted pair work and study with Black Star and his caring weapon Tsubaki, as well as Death the Kid, the Shinigami’sShinigami’s own kid, an obsessive-compulsive dual wielder of twin pistols Patty and Liz.
The Shibusen students are followed in Soul Eater as they embark on missions to collect souls and protect the city from external threats, all while working together to improve their minds, body, and soul.
