Is “Becoming Elizabeth” based on a true story?

    Becoming Elizabeth (2022)

The first trailer for Becoming Elizabeth, a new historical drama series that will investigate Queen Elizabeth I’s life before she came to the throne, has been published by Starz. By focusing on Elizabeth’s upbringing, the new series hopes to uncover previously hidden Tudor stories, such as how an orphanage kid rose to become England’s most powerful person.

Alicia von Rittberg plays the young Elizabeth Tudor in the trailer. Elizabeth’s sister, Mary (Romola Garai), wakes her up in the middle of the night, urging her to leave the castle quickly. The death of King Henry VIII causes chaos, resulting in the premature coronation of his nine-year-old son Edward (Oliver Zetterström), the true male successor to the throne.

Because Edward is plainly too young to lead a country, many noble families attempt to influence him so that his governing is in their benefit. The power struggle also involves Mary and Elizabeth, who are forced into planned marriages in order to keep the Tudor family alive and the kingdom together. Elizabeth, on the other hand, is not content to just bend down and obey, and she begins to play her own game at the Tudor court. The series claims to follow the aftermath of the king’s death, culminating in Elizabeth’s coronation as Queen.

Becoming Elizabeth also stars Jessica Raine (The Informer, Patrick Melrose) as King Henry’s widow, Catherine Parr; Tom Cullen (Weekend, Black Mirror) as Thomas Seymour, who marries Catherine while keeping his eye on Elizabeth; and John Heffernan (The Pursuit of Love, The Crown) as the Duke of Somerset, who becomes Lord Protector after the old King dies.

Jamie Blackley (Greed, The Last Kingdom), Alexandra Gilbreath (Tulip Fever), Jamie Parker (1917), Leo Bill (Rare Beasts, In Fabric), Oliver Zetterström (The Midnight Gang, The Romanoffs), Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones, The Last of Us), Ekow Quartey (This Way Up), Alex Macqueen (Sally4Ever, Peaky Blinders), and Olivier Huband are among the other cast members.

Anya Reiss wrote and executive produced the film Becoming Elizabeth. George Ormond (National Treasure, Great Expectations) and George Faber (Shameless, The White Queen) from The Forge are also executive producers, with Lisa Osborne (Little Dorrit, Man in an Orange Shirt) producing.
