Blacula Will Rise From The Dead Once Again – Movie Reboot Announced By MCM

Deon and Roxanne Avent Taylor of MGM, Bron, and Hidden Empire Film Group are collaborating on a remake of the blaxploitation horror classic Blacula. The movie’s blurb teases how it will adapt the original plot by following the vampire as he yearns for revenge. The new film, directed by William Crain and starring William Marshall as Blacula, is a modern remake of the 1972 film. The reboot will take up where the original saga left off, with the 1973 sequel “Scream Blacula Scream,” and will be set in a post-coronavirus pandemic metropolitan city.

Who is Blacula? Dracula curses Blacula, an old African prince, after he refuses to promise to abolish the slave trade. Blacula is entombed and awakens 200 years later, ready to avenge his ancestors’ deaths and those responsible for stripping his people of their work, culture, and history for profit.

In a statement announcing the new project, Deon Taylor said that Blacula is probably one of the most prestigious Black franchises and so essential to the culture since it birthed a groundswell of Blaxploitation-horror films, it changed the concept of how our people were presented on the big screen.

The film will be directed by Deon Taylor and will be based on a script co-written by Micah Ranum. Hidden Empire Film Group’s Roxanne Avent Taylor is producing the film. Bron’s production will be handled by Aaron L. Gilbert, and the project will be managed by DJ Holloway.

“Blacula,” first released in 1972 by American International Pictures, became one of the year’s highest-grossing pictures. It has left an imprint for its Black ensemble cast which included Denise Nicholas and the late Vonetta McGee and ThalmusRasulala. Following MGM’s takeover of Orion Pictures, the film was bought by the company.

Lets hope that this reboot can live up to the glory of its earlier counterpart.
