Blade: Trinity is an excellently defective sequel, but the original strategy for the movie would’ve taken signals from the apocalyptic novel I Am Legend. Back in 1998, way before Marvel unequivocal to make Marvel Studios and alter pop culture forever with the MCU, superhero films were far from sure things at the box office. That’s what makes it all the more imposing that Blade’s single debut was able to buck that tendency, even before Fox’s X-Men and Sony’s Spider-Man started to turn the wave toward comic book hits.
