Yuumikan wrote a Japanese light novel called BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense. The novel was illustrated by Koin. An anime adaptation has followed the novel series. Before it, the novel was published online on Shosetsukani Naro, a Japanese novel publishing website. The first publication on paper was done in 2017 by Kadokawa Books imprint. As of August 2021, a total of 12 volumes have been published.
Before the release, a sneak peek at the previous season’s plot will be helpful. The series follows the story of a girl named Kaede Honjo, who plays a video game under a different name. VRMMORPGNewWorld Online is the game, in which she engages herself. In the game, to get stronger she keeps on building her defence. As she adds defence she loses her pace. Though with a strong system to protect herself she manages to ace the game. Under a false name, she becomes one of the strongest players in the game.
The series follows a long list of characters- Maple – the protagonist, voiced by Kaede Hondo, Sally voiced by Ruriko Noguchi, the friend who introduced the video game to Maple. Kasumi is voiced by Saori Hayami- another player. Kanade is voiced by Satomi Arai- a male player. Chrome is voiced by Noriaki Sugiyama- a player from the game. Izis voiced by Satomi Sato- a crafter who made equipment. There are other characters too like Yui, Syrup, Mai, and Oboro.
The series has also inspired a five-volume manga adaptation. Silver Link- a Japanese animation studio decided to make an anime series based on the light novel. Shin Oonuma and Mirai Minato along with Fumihiko Shimo are looking after the direction of the series. Taro Masuda is producing the music.

An announcement for a season second has been done. The season will be aired in 2022. Season one of the series was released from January 2020 to March 2020.

As we witnessed, using her skills she is able to defeat the Poison dragon by eating him and gaining access to his skills. The girls together participated in a lot of adventures. For example- the underwater cave, forest, and the deer boss. They also won battles against the ice bird boss and dungeon boss. As they continued on their journey, they made new friends like Syrup and Oboro.
They also won against the underwater squid boss and began building their guild when they came across a Maple Tree. The guild qualifies for Level 3. The group also faces regression from Flame Emperors. As Maple gets trapped, the whole group tries its best to help her out of the Prison of the Flame. Maple is surrounded by all sides. As she tries to save Maple Tree from the members of Holy Sword, she faces damage from Payne.
At last, we saw that the main lead Maple was in a life and death situation. Maple uses her Atrocity form to eliminate other teams from grabbing more orbs. At the same time, she assists the Flame emperors and another guild to achieve their goals. As she goes ahead, she meets Sally, Kanade, Mii, May, and Yui. They also encounter the Holy Sword- Payne, Dread, Frederica, and Drag.
In the series to follow, we will see even more competitive opponents. Maple herself drew many potential players into the game. During the season second along with the advanced skills of Maple tougher opponents are expected. It depends on the young Maple how she will guide her guild and will fight against her opponents.
