Is “Boundless (Sin Límites): Season 1” based on a true story?
“Boundless (Sin Límites): Season 1” is not based on a true story. Boundless is a documentary that covers the narrative of the 500th anniversary of the first sailing journey around the world. In a huge series packed with action and adventure filmed between Spain and the Dominican Republic, the super-production directed by Simon West (Tomb Raider) will bring to life the thrilling epic narrative of a gang of sailors on a trip into the unknown.
Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Captain Cartagena), Adrián Lastra (Captain Mendoza), Carlos Cuevas (Martino), Pepón Nieto (Father Bartolomé), Ral Tejón (Gómez de Espinosa), Gonçalo Diniz (Duarte Barrosa), Manuel Morón (Cardenal Fonseca) and Bárbara Goenaga are among the cast members (Beatriz).
On August 20, 1519, 239 sailors set sail from Sanlcar de Barrameda (Cádiz, Spain), led by the Portuguese Fernando de Magallanes. Only 18 sailors survived the expedition, and only one ship, led by the Spanish sailor Juan Sebastián Elcano, returned three years later, very ill from malnutrition. They’d journeyed 14,460 leagues west, completing the world’s circumnavigation; an extremely impossible quest that attempted to establish a new path to the “islands of spices” and ended up rewriting mankind’s history by demonstrating that the Earth is round.
This effort, which is regarded as one of the greatest triumphs in human history, irrevocably changed trade, economy, astrology, and understanding of the globe. The series was shot at Azkoitia, Azkorri, Lazkao, Olite, and the Cathedral of Pamplona in the Basque Country and Navarre, as well as Seville, Huelva, and Madrid, before moving to the Dominican Republic.
Boundless is produced by MONO Films and KILIMA Media in association with RTVE, EiTB, and Canal Sur, and features a top-notch technical team led by British director Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The General’s Daughter, The Mercenaries 2) and producer Miguel Menéndez de Zubillaga (La Trinchera infinite, Loving Pablo, The Paper Boy, Camaron). Patxi Amezcua penned the screenplay (Desaparecidos, Gun City, The Warning). The initiative, which will be presented to the Navy Headquarters in February 2020, is part of a Collaboration Agreement between RTVE and the Spanish Ministry of Defense signed in March 2018 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the first round-the-world voyage.
