The famous Apple Music reality programme has been extended for a fifth season and will be available on Apple TV+ alongside the rest of Apple’s original shows. It is based on a viral piece from CBS’ The Late Late Show With James Corden.

Apple Music put the project up for bid in 2016, ahead of the launch of Apple TV+ in November 2019 and the development of Apple’s Worldwide Video Programming division. The first four seasons of Carpool They’ll move to their new house when the fifth season premieres on Apple TV+. The Carpool Karaoke franchise, including the Apple series and the Late Late Show segment, has been on pause since the outbreak began, with efforts underway to bring it back safely.

Carpool Karaoke is back for a second season! The fifth season of Carpool Karaoke, which starts on Apple TV+ on May 27, features a star-studded cast. Release date for Season 5 of Carpool Karaoke

Carpool Karaoke was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series in each of its first three seasons. For the fourth season, it has received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama, or Variety Series.

Carpool Karaoke originated as a regular segment on James Corden’s Late Late Show, in which the host Corden would drive around with a celebrity or celebrities, singing music together while driving. The episode was bought up by Apple Music in 2016 and turned into a standalone series, which aired in 2017.

The announcement of the fifth season was made in August 2021, along with the series’ transition to Apple TV+. Michael Key, Will Smith, John Cena, Shaquille O’Neal, Keegan- and Rob Gronkowski are among the superstars that have previously appeared on the show.

Corden says the song was inspired by a Gavin & Stacey-themed spoof he did for the British charity television programme Red Nose Day 2011 in which he sang along with George Michael.

In his 2014 documentary When Corden Met Barlow, which aired on BBC One, Corden includes a 6-minute 45-second Carpool Karaoke session with Take That singer-songwriter Gary Barlow.

The documentary was directed by Ben Winston. “Ben Winston and I have always felt it was extremely pleasant to see someone very, very famous sing one of their songs in a normal situation,” Corden says. We had this fantastic idea: Los Angeles, traffic, and the carpool lane—perhaps we could pull it off.” Mariah Carey agreed to be the show’s first host when Corden showed her the George Michael footage.

According to a 2020 report, Corden does not always drive the vehicle while shooting; instead, it is dragged. Corden stated that they had to halt for safety reasons—for example, a dance routine or costume change—and gave five examples, accounting for about 5% of the series so far: Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor, Migos, Cardi B, Chance the Rapper (3rd time). He further stated that the event is purely recreational because he is already at work and does not need to carpool, and the roads he travels do not have carpool lanes.
