    The daughter of Virginia and Lucien Baranski, who owned a Polish-language newspaper, Baranski was born in Buffalo, New York. Michael J. Baranski, her elder brother, was an executive in advertising who passed away at the age of 48 and lived from 1949 to 1998. Her ancestors were theatre actresses in Poland before emigrating to the United States; she is of Polish origin.

    Baranski went ahead into Villa Maria Academy for high school while growing up in a predominantly Catholic area of Polish and Roman in Cheektowaga’s Buffalo suburb.
