Alan Cumming (The Good Wife, Cabaret), a Tony Award winner and Emmy nominee, will premiere Club Cumming Presents A Queer Comedy Extravaganza, his first Showtime comedy special, on Friday, September 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. This cabaret-style event is hosted by Cumming and features seven upcoming gay comedians that represent the range of both the queer spectrum and comic styles, including stand-up, characters, and musical acts. Joe Castle Baker, Julia Shiplett, Zach Teague & Drew Lausch, Nori Reed, Pat Regan, and Larry Owens are among the stars of the 75-minute programme.
You’ve wandered into Alan Cumming’s pride and pleasure if you find yourself in a small East Village pub with red lights, a perilously perched piano, and a sign that says “Resist, Persist, Keep Dancing.” The man who owns the bar claims that it began in his dressing room two years ago because he wanted the party to come to him.
I genuinely enjoy urging others to enjoy themselves. Cumming recalls how his work as a cast member of “The Good Wife” and his second run as “Cabaret” on Broadway kept him too busy to socialise. He pauses to giggle and claims, “I think I’m extremely excellent at it” (a Cumming tic as frequent as it is endearing). Additionally, drinking clearly helps.

Cumming, Alan OBE FRSE, a Scottish actor, was born on January 27, 1965. Hamlet, the Maniac in Accidental Death of an Anarchist (for which he won an Olivier Award), the lead in Bent, The Bacchae at the National Theatre of Scotland, and Samuel Beckett’s Endgame at The Old Vic alongside Daniel Radcliffe are just a few of his theatre performances in London. He has performed in The Threepenny Opera, Cabaret (for which he received a Tony Award), Design for Living, and a one-man production of Macbeth on Broadway.
In addition to his parts in Emma, GoldenEye, Nightcrawler in X2 (X-Men 2), Loki in Son of the Mask, and FeganFloop in the Spy Kids trilogy, Cumming has appeared in a number of other movies. Cumming also made an appearance on The Good Wife, for which he received three Primetime Emmy nominations, two Screen Actors Guild nominations, two Golden Globe nominations, and a Satellite Award. Tommy’s Tale, a novel by Cumming, was published in 2002. He also wrote the autobiography Not My Father’s Son: A Memoir and the topical memoir Baggage: Tales from a Fully Packed Life (2019). He created a line of fragrant goods with the “Cumming” brand and had a cable discussion show called Eavesdropping with Alan Cumming. Along with performing the cabaret shows I Bought a Blue Car Today and Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs, he has also written opinion pieces for numerous periodicals. He won the Best Musical Tony Award in 2022 for producing the show A Strange Loop.
Cumming was born in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland, on January 27, 1965. His father, Alex Cumming, was the head forester of Panmure Estate, which is situated close to Carnoustie on the east coast of Scotland, and is where Cumming grew up. His mother, Mary Darling, worked as an insurance company secretary. He has called the situation “feudal.” He also has a niece, two nephews, and a brother named Tom who is six years older than him. In Southampton, England, he has a brother who manages rental properties. [6] Cumming went to Carnoustie High School and Monikie Primary School.
Cumming writes about the emotional and physical abuse he experienced as a child in his autobiography, Not My Father’s Son. His mother discovered that until she was self-sufficient financially, getting a divorce was impossible. Cumming claimed that he didn’t speak to his father again once he entered his early 20s until shortly before the Who Do You Think You Are series episode in question was being filmed. Then he learned that his dad had thought Cumming wasn’t his biological son. Cumming and his brother later underwent DNA testing, which established that they were in fact his biological children. Cumming claimed that his challenging upbringing taught him how to behave since he “ought to suppress my own emotions and feelings around him [his father] while I was a little boy.”
Cumming’s performance as Eli Gold on The Good Wife garnered him three Emmy nods. In addition, he was nominated for a BAFTA® Award for Best Actor in Scotland for Prague and won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for Cabaret. Cumming, who Time Magazine called “one of the funniest individuals in show business,” has won more than 40 honours for his humanitarianism and social activity. His native Scotland has also given him the Great Scot and Icon of Scotland awards. In addition, he received an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth II for his support of LGBT equality and the arts.
