A brand-new Lovecraftian game is on its way to completion and it involves themes of cult worshipping. Chasing Rats Games, an indie video game studio is famous for creating multiplayer games that each have their own quirky style. They began a Kickstarter campaign to fund this new game called Worship and although there are still twenty-eight days left for the campaign, the funding is not only completed but Chasing Rats Games has managed to raise $20,000 more than its original goal! The game is meant to be played in teams of four and is currently set to release in 2022 on consoles and PC.
What we know about the gameplay so far
Worship is a “cultist themed multiplayer roguelike game”, as described by Chasing Rats Games themselves. Not to be fooled by its almost cute animation, the game involves taking risks that are (literally) outer-worldly. Using blood sacrifice, one must create a pattern in order to summon their God and His powers. But it is not all so easy as threats come in the form of rival cults! The cult that wins gets to have the power to summon the God and were that power to go in the wrong hands, the God’s powers could be used to destroy the world. Solving puzzles and exploring the land come with the added bonus of excellent sound effects and artwork and with each passing level, the difficulty varies and rewards change.

Could the famous Great Old One be coming to Worship?
The trailer captures the essence of the game quite well and we see a commoner leading some Christ-worshippers to the lair of the cultists. Just as they reach, they are horrified by the sacrifice being made, but before anything can be said or done, He has appeared. The God hovers over the land and looks powerful and scary yet fascinating at the same time. The Christ-worshippers try their luck anyway, but just as they are about to take a step forward, the ground they stand on starts to shake and the ritualistic symbol around them rips apart to let out huge black tentacles. Given how Lovecraftian monsters have never actually been described by someone who has actually seen one, it cannot be known for certain if the monster they are going for is after all, the famous Cthullu. But based on many stories of the God, some images have been drawn by fans and films alike and one thing that remains common are the giant tentacles and this could mean that Worship is all about Cthullu, bringing the Lovecraftian monster to life once again.
