What was Dahyun’s early life like?
Dahyun was born on 28th May 1998 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, South Korea. She is the youngest in her family with an older brother. Dahyun started singing at the Church choir when she was just a child and started receiving attention in the 6th grade when she had performed the Eagle Dance at church. The dance was later put up on YouTube. Dahyun was recruited by JYP Entertainment as a trainee after she was scouted at a dance festival. She trained in the company for 3 years.

Dahyun was criticized severely by some Japanese right-wing leaders, specifically lawmaker Masaru Onodera, for wearing a T-shirt that was made by Maryland. The reason it might have irked the Japanese lawmaker was that Marymond was an organization that supported ‘comfort women’, that is women who were victims of assault and sexual slavery by the imperial Japanese forces at the time of the Second World War. However, fans were quick to defend Dahyun and The Korea Times criticized JYP Entertainment founder J.Y. Park for failing to defend Dahyun’s position.
