12 Darkest And Mature Justice League Moments – Explored – One Of Best Superhero Animated Show

Because it was aimed at a juvenile audience, DC marketed itself with stories that were typically campy and light-hearted nearly 90 years ago. They began to reach out and reinvent themselves thirty years later, in the 1960s, to appeal to a more mature audience.

In the 1970s, however, creators Neal Adams and Denny O’Neil took up the pen and began to explore more mature topics like drugs, racism, and poverty. Batman, who transitioned from being a smiling detective to the iconic Dark Knight, was one of the main characters to be reimagined.

Frank Miller joined the legion of writers in the 1980s who wanted to deal with more serious subjects because he wanted to write stories that would have horrified him as a kid. He built on Batman’s passion and created The Dark Knight Returns. Watchmen, by Alan Moore, explored with more intricacy and gloom.

The DC Animated Universe grew in popularity in the 1980s and 1990s thanks to animation adaptations of its comic book adventures. It was light-hearted with comedy aspects, and it was intended for a youthful audience. The DCAU was launched in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series, which was followed by Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited.

By this time, DC has established a number of darker tales in which we would see individuals, many of whom were members of the Justice League, engage in murder. Some events occurred in parallel timelines, while others occurred in actual time. One such cartoon was Justice League, which included multiple similar episodes. The villains’ plans were also noticeably more diabolical, which is exactly what we will look at in this video.

There are scenes in which Hawkgirl kills an opponent, J’onn J’onzz ponders humanity’s selfish goal, Terry McGinnis discovers Amanda Waller’s diabolical scheme to convert him into Batman, and much more.

    The Death Of Superman

    The Death Of Superman

Supervillains attack Metropolis to take revenge on Superman. Toyman uses a disintegrator beam to make sections of the city disappear. When he targets it towards Batman and Wonder Woman, Superman takes the hit and disappears. The League, except Batman, believes that Superman is dead. Batman thinks that due to the law of conservation of mass, objects always leave a trace before disappearing.

As the League exchanges stories about Superman, Lobo volunteers to be his replacement and proves his strength by attacking them and tearing the League Watchtower apart. Supervillains take to the streets to celebrate the death of Superman. Lobo causes severe destruction in the city and forces the League to bow their heads. Meanwhile, under a red Sun and rubble in a barren place, Superman is seen.

When conscious, Superman looks around him and notices sections of Metropolis that had been hit by Toyman’s disintegrator. He realizes that he has been transported somewhere and realizes the Red Sun will cause his powers to wane. His communicator picks up a signal and he moves towards the source.

It takes him a few days to realize the signal was coming from the Watchtower, which had crashed to the ground. He entered the place and tried to find the League members but to no avail. A voice appears from somewhere and tells Superman that the League members had died thousands of years ago. It happens to be Vandal Savage.

Apparently, this was 30,000 years into the future and the human race was extinct. Savage had stolen a white dwarf star matter from Dr. Ray Palmer, following Superman’s death. He developed a gravity-based superweapon that bested the League but disrupted the solar system’s balance. This caused the human race to go extinct, except Savage, because he cannot die.

Savage allows Superman to stay with him and does not enjoy living his entire life in solitude. One night, Superman finds an unfinished time machine. However, Savage hadn’t finished it because the machine wouldn’t let him travel to a time period where he existed. Superman decides to time travel as he had been removed from the time period as he was thought to be dead.

They complete the machine and try to find a power source to keep the time portal open for which they need the zero=point energy generator. While trying to get that generator back, Superman falls into the death pit and the device, which is like a miniature Sun, restores Superman’s strength.

Superman goes back to the present and catches a missile launched by Deadshot towards Batman. He tells the League that they have a job to do and the League flies into action.

Meanwhile, Savage sits among the ruins in Metropolis in the future when he sees people appear one after the other. The barren place is replaced with a city full of people. Savage’s body fades away.

Death Of Ace And Terry McGinnis Learns The Truth About His Birth

Death Of Ace And Terry McGinnis Learns The Truth About His Birth

This is set in the future when Terry McGinnis is a 31-year-old. He breaks into Amanda Waller’s home and demands answers from her. Bruce Wayne suffered kidney failure months ago and required a tissue donor for cloning new organs. Terry was found to be compatible and it was revealed that Terry was Bruce’s biological son.

Terry, enraged, believes that Bruce did this since he did not want a successor. In his mind, he storms the Batcave to confront Bruce, who does not deny the accusations. Bruce never telling him that Warren McGinnis is not his real father angers him even more.

Amanda Waller tells Terry a story about Bruce. The metahuman Ace of the Royal Flush Gang was causing havoc when her powers evolved to the point that it could alter the fabric of reality. The League had managed to defeat the Royal Flush Gang but Waller warned Batman about Ace who was close to death due to a brain aneurysm. The problem with this was that her death would cause a major psychic backlash that would cause insurmountable destruction.

With a special weapon retrieved by Cadmus, Batman was supposed to kill her. But Ace read his mind and pointed out how he never intended to use the weapon against her. He asked Ace to reverse the changes as the two of them had suffered a similar loss during their childhood. In the end, Ace died peacefully with Batman by her side and the world became normal.

Waller confesses to being the mastermind behind these actions. She had become an ally of the League following the Cadmus Crisis. She gained a lot of respect for Batman but as he began to age, realized that he would need to retire someday, even though the world would always need a Batman.

She then launched Project Batman Beyond and retrieved his DNA. Then found out a couple (which was Mary and Warren McGinnis) who were the psychological match for Thomas and Martha Wayne. When Warren was supposed to get a flu shot, his DNA was overwritten by that of Bruce Wayne so when Terry was born, he was genetically the son of Mary and Bruce.

However, to make Batman, Terry’s parents had to die and so, Waller hired an assassin when Terry was eight. But the assassin could not bring himself to kill them as killing would negate everything Batman stands for, with reference to his no-violence policy. The project was scrapped but nine years later, Warren did end up getting killed and it turned Terry into Batman.

Waller asks Terry to take care of those who love him and Terry returns to the Wayne Manor. Bruce comes over, asking for Terry’s whereabouts and he helps Bruce take his medicines. He gives him reassurance over taking care of everything and goes on to help Superman after the two share an unspoken father-son moment.

    Aquaman Sacrifices His Own Hand

The USS Defiant, which is the US Navy Submarine, closes into an Atlantean armada during a patrol. It is subsequently attacked by the Atlantean ships and when it sinks to the floor, Aquaman calls for it to be abandoned.

The Justice League heads to rescue and retrieve those from the ship where they come face to face with Aquaman and his troops. Aquaman allows the rescue but does not want the submarine to be retrieved. Green Lantern isn’t happy about it as the submarine’s nuclear material is dangerous. Superman urges Aquaman to air his grievances with the surface world before a world leadership conference.

During the conference, he comes off as very aggressive when he mentions that the surface nations need to stop intruding and causing pollution in the oceans. The world leaders get outraged and Aquaman storms out. A bazooka rocket is fired and it lands in front of Aquaman, injuring him gravely.

He is hospitalized and placed in a saline water tank for his natural healing to work. Atlantis gets news of the situation and Orm takes the trident and crown in Aquaman’s absence. The League spreads the knowledge that they are moving Aquaman to a special facility to catch the assassin who turns out to be Deadshot. But this Aquaman is just J’onn J’onzz in disguise.

The real Aquaman decides to return home while Superman catches Deadshot. It is revealed that someone had hired Deadshot to kill Aquaman. Batman assesses the gold antique coins that have been used to pay Deadshot and realizes the orders came from Atlanteans themselves.

Aquaman returns and finds his brother Orm on the throne, who is tired of Aquaman’s tolerance for the surface people. Brak’s soldiers surround him and it is found that Orm and Brak are behind this plan. The soldiers ambush and imprison the League when they arrive while Orm plans to destroy the surface world.

The League is kept in cells with rising water and subdued by headbands that jam their powers. But Mera knocks out Orm’s soldiers and frees them all. Meanwhile, Aquaman is chained to a rock above a lava fissure. Orm pins Aquaman’s infant son to another rock and uses a blast from the trident to kill them but Aquaman manages to free himself.

Aquaman returns to Mera with his son and realizes that his left arm is gone, which is how he freed himself from the chains. He was being fitted with a prosthetic arm when Batman tells him about the temperature at Arctic rising dramatically which could be catastrophic.

Aquaman reveals the Doomsday Thermal Reactor, a weapon he had built if he ever went to war with the surface world. He had never armed it but Orm used the submarine’s nuclear material to do so.

At the Arctic Circle, the League fights Brak’s forces. Aquaman reaches the reactor but Orm destroys the controls. He fights his brother and Batman tries to shut the reactor down with Lanterns but realizes it has to be done manually. Lantern makes a body shield and Batman goes inside the reactor.

During the fight between Orm and Aquaman, Orm loses his trident. The ice beneath crumbles and Orm dangles off the ledge. Aquaman picks his trident and Orm falls into the abyss. Batman closes the shutoff valve and the reactor shuts down.

    Justice League Unlimited: Dead Reckoning

    Justice League Unlimited Dead Reckoning

The Master of a Temple at Nanda Parbat tells Deadman that his destiny is to avenge death. But the temple is attacked by the Legion of Doom on Grodd’s orders as he wanted to steal its Heart for the psychic remains of the monks. Devil Ray kills the Master but is exorcized by Tala from Rampage. Tala takes the Heart and transports the villains away from the site.

Deadman possesses Superman’s body to inform the League about the disaster. Batman, as one of the former pupils of the Master, vouches to help Deadman. Deadman tries to locate the Heart via its psychic remains while Gorilla Grodd returns to Gorilla City.

With a possessed Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman reach Gorilla City. When the League faces off against Devil Ray, Deadman possesses Wonder Woman. At the same time, Luthor and Grodd place the Heart into a force field generator to send out a planetary energy field that is a mind control signal. It is revealed that Grodd’s plan is to rewrite human DNA and turn humanity into apes.

The signal catches up to the League, turning them into apes but Superman destroys the Heart and the force-field generator, turning everyone back into humans. Devil Ray aims his weapon at Wonder Woman but Deadman shifts to Batman’s body to shoot him. Ray is knocked backward and electrocuted to death. Batman regains control again and is disgusted to be involved in killing someone with a mere gun.

Rama Krishna calls upon Deadman for disbalancing life by killing Devil Ray but Deadman believes that he killed Ray for a crime far bigger – the killing of the monks. He is then shown that the lives of the monks have been restored and Deadman is made to live on Earth to atone for his sin of killing.

Luthor is disgusted by Grodd’s master plan as it failed, which was a ridiculous plan, to begin with. He aims a non-lethal gun at the gorilla to take control over the Legion of Doom sooner than he intended to. Gorilla Grodd is incapacitated.

    Flash Tears Apart Luthor/Brainiac

    Flash Tears Apart Luthor Brainiac

The seven founding members of the Justice League witness the sight of Brainiac existing inside Lex Luthor’s body, which surprises Luthor himself. Brainiac tells him that when Brainiac had forced Luthor to build him a new body, he had inserted a microscopic copy of his system inside him. That copy has gradually grown, causing Luthor to act under Brainiac. It also cured his Kryptonite poisoning and gave him super-strength. But Brainiac considered Luthor to be a vessel until he transferred Brainiac’s consciousness into a suitable android body.

The League attacks Luthor but the hybrid overpowers them. It turns the building into mechanical constructs to digitize individual knowledge and delete the physical forms of the members. It then transforms the head of LexCorp tower into a skull-shaped robot ship, which is taken down by the combined efforts of Superman and Green Lantern.

Batman feels like something is wrong as they were able to avert the crisis way too easily. He realizes that the Luthor/Brainiac hybrid could not be found and the attack was just a diversion. Meanwhile, Luthor tells Brainiac that his objective of destroying the universe was devoid of purpose and offered to show it the wonders of imagination. They later absorb the Dark Heart’s nanotechnology and they can now absorb and destroy all knowledge and re-make the Universe the way they want to.

They make android replicas of the Justice Lords to fight the Leagues and increase the existing insecurities of the members. However, they manage to win this round and destroy the machine but Luthor/Brainiac’s energy attack makes them unconscious. Flash is the last one standing.

Luthor/Brainiac tries to reassemble their machine but the Flash invokes the Speed Force to stop them. He runs fast enough to cause their armor to tear away and with every run around the world, possibly his fastest run ever, causes more damage to the hybrid. He then stops and tears it away with his hands and Luthor is left naked and helpless.

The League gains consciousness but watches Flash fade away. Luthor boasts about killing Flash and an enraged Superman’s eyes begin to glow red. However, he chooses to not kill. J’onn claims that he can sense Flash so he must be alive. Shayera’s hand touches the Speed Force where they find an enraptured Flash, who wants to give in to the Speed Force as it is calling him home. With their combined strength, Flash is pulled back into reality.

    Hawkgirl Betrays The Justice League

    Hawkgirl Betrays The Justice League

The League is transported to a prison, shut and restrained in special cells that nullify their powers. Talak warns Earth about the Thanagarians occupying Earth and commends Hawkgirl for working well. Meanwhile, Kragger is suspicious of Hawkgirl and her sympathies with the Justice League and asks her to kill them. She insists it would cause a planet-wide revolt.

As one of the prison guards delivers food to Wonder Woman, she asks him to feed her since she was tied up. He uses his dagger as her spoon but she bites his hand and seizes the dagger between her teeth. She then headbutts him out cold with a leg lock. She throws the dagger towards a button that frees her. The alarms blare and she rushes out. She frees Batman and fights the guards. The others is subsequently freed by one another and they escape through the breach that was above Metropolis. The prison shuttle crashes.

The League dons civilian clothes to blend in with the crowd, minus the ones who did not have a secret identity. They head for Gotham City to meet at Wayne Manor. When the Thanagarians find out about the ruse, they hold checkpoints for city-to-city travels.

The soldiers begin to manhandle a couple in front of Bruce and Diana, causing Diana to intervene and blow their cover. They are assisted by an East Indian restaurant owner. The two share a passionate kiss while the owner tells the soldiers that Bruce and Diana never arrived, sand that the lovebird couple had been here for hours.

Wally is surprised to know that Bruce Wayne is Batman. He stands at a train station with John to board a train. With the help of Clark and J’onn, they manage to board a train to Gotham, undetected.

In the mothership, Hero talks about the real plan of the Thanagarians. Their force field was a hyperspace bypass generator that would allow them to bypass the defenses of the Gordanians and attack the homeworld directly to end the war. Hawkgirl points out how Earth will be destroyed as collateral damage but the others consider it to be a necessary sacrifice. She tries to reason with them and asks Shayera to help them find the League again. But, she slams him and threatens him. Talak notices how she did not answer their questions.

Wally and John meet Alfred at the Batcave who leads them to the rest of the League Members. They begin to wonder about the true motive of the Thanagarians’ plan when Hawkgirl arrives to tell them the truth. The members are enraged when she says that she just wants to help. She tells them about the hyperspace bypass that will destroy Earth and also confesses how she did not know of the real plan.

Bruce orders her out but accepts her information. She returns John his power ring and flies out. However, there was a bug planted on Shayera by Kragger and they now knew where the League members were hiding out.
