They represent the very forces of nature in an anthropomorphic form. We present to you one of Sandman’s siblings from the most recent Netflix series in this video. Want is a fictional figure who perfectly captures the feelings of desire, fulfillment, and contentment.

Desire, the third youngest Endless, has a long-standing feud with Lord Morpheus, the book’ titular character, who is their older brother. The anime has done an excellent job of adapting Desire’s personality.

Desire can end up being one of your favorite characters because of the angelic smile on their face and the sinister look in their eyes. So without further ado, let us watch the movie and learn everything there is to know about The Sandman’s Desire, including their conflict with Dream, their special abilities, and other plot lines.

    Desire Backstory Explored

The character of Desire from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman possesses the personal pronouns they/them and is androgynous, which means that depending on the circumstance, they may assume the form of a man, a woman, neither, or even both. In issue #10 of the second collection, titled The Doll’s House, Desire makes their debut in the anthropomorphic world of the Sandman comics.

Desire is depicted in the comics as being of average height. They look good and frequently wear a sly grin that suggests they are up to something. Desire is described as having “pale as smoke” complexion, “tawny and sharp as yellow wine” eyes, and “midnight black” hair. ” Can I get you something you desire?,” is a common seduction tactic used to seduce others.

The fortress of Desire where they reside is known as the Threshold. It is a massive statue of Desire of the Endless, which acts as a portrait of them with intricate details made from Desire’s blood, flesh, bone, and skin. The statue has two eardrums that are larger than any marble ballroom and tunnels made of veins. If you were to venture into Desire’s Threshold, you would easily get lost and never find your way. However, Desire lives in the heart of this giant cathedral of their body.

They are the third youngest of the Endless siblings and have a twin known as Despair. Their father is Time, who is the embodiment of time, and their mother is Night, the embodiment of the eternal darkness that existed before the birth of the universe. According to their brothers and sisters, Desire is easily not the most favorite sibling, because they are known to be the most wicked among them.

The Endless have a sigil that their siblings can use to call upon them and enter each other’s realms. Desire’s sigil is befitting of their personality. It is a heart made out of cut glass. Desire is known to be the Endless who loves interfering in the affairs of their elder siblings, especially Dream. In fact, in order to accomplish their mischievous plans, Desire often teams up with their twin, Despair, and the youngest Endless, Delirium.

Since Desire is the anthropomorphic personification of desire itself, they reflect the emotion of desire and fulfillment that is common to all human beings. Desire also takes great pleasure in tormenting people who believe they are devoid of emotion. They act as a reminder to those people that their desires control them and not the other way around. The Endless appeared when the first living being came into existence, and they exist because human beings inherently believe in them.

Dream and Death have tried numerous times to make Desire understand this, but they refuse to accept it. Desire believes that they are superior and control humans. They are self-centered and care about nothing other than their own desires. They also hate it when Destiny, Death, and Dream act like their realms are more important than Desire. In fact, Dream and Desire have a long-standing grudge against each other, and they are the last of the Endless who will ever get along.

Desire constantly tries to meddle in Dream’s affairs and manages to get on his nerves several times. In the midst of constantly taunting Dream, Desire often ends up remarking on Dream’s faults, which annoys him even more. This feud between Dream and Desire started eons ago, towards the beginning of the universe’s inhabitation.

This story is introduced to us in Endless Nights, which is a graphic novel written by Neil Gaiman and is set billions of years before the story arc of the Sandman. Dream and Desire used to be very close, and they were Dream’s favorite sibling. Dream met Killala of the Glow and became infatuated with her. She is from the Maltusian species and one of the first of her kind to be able to use her mind to harness a glowing green force known as “The Glow.”

While experimenting with her new Glow powers, she managed to make contact with Dream in his realm, which is known as the Dreaming. Dream soon fell in love with her, and their romance was so passionate that it consumed him. He even introduced her to Desire, but little did he know that Desire had their own plans. They started influencing and manipulating Killala. One day, Dream took her to a gathering of stars, which were actually embodiments of multiple suns.

When she saw Sto Oa, the star that her home world orbits around, she immediately fell in love with him as a result of Desire’s manipulations and decided to dump Dream. Dream watched her in the arms of Sto Oa and was left heartbroken. When he realized that Desire must have been responsible for Killala’s change of heart, he confronted them. Desire had nothing to say and only kept smiling at Dream, because his pain gave them pleasure.

When Dream left, Desire made a remark to their brother, Destruction, by saying, “Doesn’t he have a sense of humor?” Well, it is clear from this incident that Desire does not worry about the consequences of their actions because everything is fun and games for them. Dream lost all affection he had for Desire after the sorrow and heartache they caused him. Ever since then, the two have never seen eye to eye, and Desire continued to create a mess for Dream every chance they got.

In the new Netflix series, The Sandman, they did not show Killala’s story, but we can hope that they might get to it in the future since they did introduce us to Dream and Desire’s rivalry in another dramatic story of Desire’s destructive plans.

Amazing Story Of Desire From The Sandman Netflix Series

Amazing Story Of Desire From The Sandman Netflix Series

For most of the part, the Netflix series has stayed true to the character of Desire as they appear in the same form in the series as well. The only difference is that they appear blonde in the series as opposed to their black hair in the comics, and surprisingly, this blonde look is inspired by James Dean’s legendary locks. Desire is introduced for the first time in the series in episode 5, which is titled 24 / 7. We meet them at the end of the episode with an intense devilish laugh as they say, “I am watching you, big brother.”

The character of Desire is portrayed by the American, non-binary actor Mason Alexander Park, whose pronouns are they/them, just like their character. It is instantly made clear to us that Desire plans to follow every move that Dream makes, because they are getting ready to be the reason for Dream’s ruin once again. In the next episode, titled The Sound of Her Wings, we see Desire’s magnificent cathedral, The Threshold.

Desire stands in their gallery and holds the sigil of their twin sister, Despair, and asks her to come to their realm and hear out Desire’s new plan for their brother, Dream. In the episode titled The Doll’s House, we get to know a lot more about Desire’s plan as Despair appears after Desire’s many pleas to talk to them. Desire confesses that now that Dream has managed to free himself from the imprisonment of Roderick Burgess, it is time for them to begin a new plan that would lead to Dream’s downfall.

They also suggest that perhaps they had something to do with Dream’s imprisonment, but nothing is ever said explicitly. Despair argues that whatever machinations Desire is brewing will not work because history has proved that their plans have consistently failed so far. But this time, Desire is confident in what they have planned. They are tired of Dream constantly behaving as if his realm is superior to theirs.

So, Desire wants to teach him that dreams are just echoes of desire and despair. Basically, they want to show Dream that they have more power than anyone ever realized. So, Desire tells Despair that a dream vortex has appeared after a long time, and it is in the form of a woman. A dream vortex is an anomaly and has the power to walk through the dreams of other people just like the Sandman does and even combine them into one single dream, which leads to trouble.

If Lord Morpheus fails to kill the dream vortex at the proper time, it can lead to the destruction of The Dreaming realm as well as Dream himself. Desire is excited about this new dream vortex because they are responsible for its arrival. At the beginning of the series, we were introduced to a disease that people called the sleepy sickness. It emerged when Lord Morpheus, the Sandman, or Dream as we know him, was captured by Roderick Burgess.

Millions of people all over the world went to sleep and never woke up. One of them was known as Unity Kinkaid. Originally, Unity was supposed to be the dream vortex, but she stayed asleep throughout Dream’s imprisonment and never became the vortex. However, while she was under the sleepy sickness, a person with spectacular golden eyes raped her and fathered a child.

This resulted in Unity’s family being extended, and the fate of the dream vortex being passed down to her great granddaughter, Rose Walker, the person Desire had been waiting for. In the comics, Rose Walker is Unity Kinkaid’s granddaughter, but this change is not that significant, so it still serves the story in the series well enough. Now, the person who caused the passing down of the dream vortex is obviously Rose’s great grandfather.

As it turns out, this person with golden eyes is actually Desire. They fathered a child with Unity so that it would lead to the formation of a dream vortex, and Dream would be forced to kill her. This is disastrous for Dream, because the Endless have to live by a rule which states that they are not allowed to kill a member of the Endless family. If they did, it would lead to their inevitable demise.

Since Rose Walker is the great granddaughter of Desire, she is now one of the Endless. So, if Morpheus kills her, Desire’s plan for Dream’s destruction will be fulfilled. For a moment, it seemed like everything was working as per Desire’s plan, since Dream was almost about to kill Rose. However, he was saved just in time when Unity came through and decided to be the dream vortex in place of Rose Walker, as it was her destiny.

She told Dream about the person with golden eyes who was Rose’s great grandfather, and then Morpheus immediately realized that it was Desire all along. Unity became the dream vortex by taking the very essence that made Rose the vortex. Soon after, Unity died, and Dream did not have to kill Rose. As a result, he was saved from an awful fate. Towards the end of the first season, Dream decides to pay Desire a visit by holding her sigil.

Desire smiles at him and tells him that he is always welcome in their chambers. They were in their ever so cunning mood and pretended as if nothing had happened. When Dream said to them that he knew everything, Desire smiled, since this time, their plan almost worked. Dream stormed off while warning Desire to always remember that they are not strong enough to stand against him and should stop meddling in his affairs. But Desire feels proud to see that they managed to get under his skin and promises Dream that they will draw blood next time.

The season ended on a rather heavy note, with Desire’s threat as well as Lucifer Morningstar planning something against Lord Morpheus. We definitely have very high expectations from the second season because, at this point, any number of battles are bound to happen. Perhaps Desire might join forces with Lucifer, since they both want the same thing – that is, to destroy Dream. After all, it will certainly be a ferocious battle if the ruler of hell and an Endless decide to be on the same side of it.

    What Makes Desire So Powerful?

    What Makes Desire So Powerful

Desire is considered to be the most malicious of all the seven Endless siblings. Apart from their infamous rivalry with Death, they also use their very essence in order to meddle in the lives of human beings. Desire is the very embodiment of the human tendency to want and crave for what they cannot have. It is the pure emotion of desire at its very core. It represents both the physical as well as emotional desires of human beings. In fact, even as opposed to it, Desire is also the lord of satisfaction, the emotion humans feel when they have finally achieved what they desire.

Since Desire is one of the Endless, their divine disposition makes them omnipresent. The emotion of desire plagues every human being, so they are present everywhere and at all times. However, they cannot be seen by humans. Since Desire is androgynous, they also have the power of shapeshifting and can change their appearance and clothing as per their needs.

They have the power of all the magic that is present within the Endless siblings, and just like the rest of them, Desire is also omnipotent. They are technically immortal, since it is almost impossible to kill an Endless. Desire can also travel between different realms and has the power to visit the mortal realm as well. As long as they have the sigils of their siblings, they can also visit their magical realms, but not without permission.

The character of Desire is more complex than it appears at first glance. Since they are the third youngest sibling, it is evident that they never received the same level of respect as their elder siblings. That has certainly led to some mental health issues, since Desire constantly tries to show Dream that they are more powerful than him.

Perhaps, Desire believes that if Dream realizes the powers of Desire, he will respect them more. Despite that, Desire is the most self-centered Endless, and they also do not care about their actions as long as it is exciting and brings them satisfaction. They are certainly content with who they are.

Well, guys, that is all for today; we hope you enjoyed watching this video as much as we enjoyed making it for you. Have a fantastic day ahead!
