According to Deadline, the “Watermelon Sugar” singer has joined Florence Pugh and Chris Pine in the Olivia Wilde-directed film Don’t Worry Darling. Shia LaBeouf, who was had to leave the production owing to schedule issues, is replaced by the former member of One Direction. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Wilde has a support role.
The movie’s narrative is still a secret, but according to Deadline, it “is set in an isolated, utopian enclave in the 1950s California desert.” The screenplay was written by Katie Silberman, who also authored the Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up and Wilde’s directorial debut, Booksmart. Pugh portrays a dissatisfied housewife who starts to doubt her sanity as odd things start happening in her neighborhood, according to Collider. She has a devoted spouse, played by Styles, who is keeping a “dark secret.” Pine portrays the eminent head of a shadowy, cult-like workplace. Johnson portrays Pugh’s neighbor, who displays “strange, obsessive behavior” and tries to warn Pugh that nothing in their neighborhood is as it seems.
