The Evil Dead franchise began in 1981 with director Sam Raimi’s film of the same name. The film sports an affirmative 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.5 rating on IMDb even today. In 1987 and 1992, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness released respectively, completing Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy. Although both the films have good ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, the theme of the series went awry by the time Army of Darkness released as it went from biblical horror about demonic possessions to a zombie action film. In 2013, a reboot happened titled Evil Dead and the film was directed by Fede Álvarez. It included equal parts gore and horror and did justice to its 1981 counterpart.
Film details we have so far
Recently news about a sequel to the 2013 film had been doing the rounds and today we got to know that shooting will soon be starting in New Zealand. Director of slow-burn horror The Hole in the Ground Lee Cronin will be the man behind this new film titled Evil Dead Rise and the film will be produced by none other than Bruce Campbell, who played the lead role of Ash Williams in the original trilogy. No plot details are known to us yet, but Campbell has confirmed that just like the 2013 film, this one will also be set in the woods and last year he also revealed that a new leading lady will be replacing Mia from the previous film.
