Fans Of Abandoned Dead, Get Ready

The 2015 horror thriller, starring Judith O’Dea (Night of the Living Dead) and Sarah Nicklin (The Black Dahlia Haunting), centred around Rachel. She works as a security guard at a rundown clinic. On seeing frightening visions of murder victims, she reaches out to a psychiatrist and detective for help. Written and directed by Mark W. Curran, the film has a short running time of an hour and forty-five minutes and has quite a low rating on IMDb. Still, Nicklin has nailed her role as Rachel, as is evident from her hair-raising ability to scream on cue and look vulnerably beautiful at the same time.

    What the trailer gives away

This indie horror film has recently released a director’s cut that runs for the same time stamp but is more digitally enhanced and newly colour corrected. The cut can now be streamed on Amazon Prime, Apple iTunes, and IMDb TV. The trailer for the director’s cut features the classic elements of any good horror movie such as low brightness that makes the viewer squint to make out what is lurking in the darkness right before they are startled with a jump scare. We see rooms lit in red, with creepy ghosts calling out to the protagonist of the film and a few glimpses of Rachel’s attempt to escape the horrors she faces. All in all, the trailer looks quite promising for a low-budget film and with the advanced and newly incorporated digital components, it can serve up a good amount of fearful responses.

Why indie films can be a great investment

Independent films have been gaining more and more traction and appreciation in recent years and in a recent video, O’Dea elaborated their potential. She said that even though time and money are huge constraints when working without a major production house, the cast and crew can do wonders with the limited resources. She also cited famous indie films that have made it big such as ‘Lost in Translation’ and her starrer, ‘Night of the Living Dead.’
