    The Great Yokai War Will Conclude Fantasia 2021

    The Fantasia International Film Festival kicks off on August 5th with the World Premiere of Quebec zombie film Brain Freeze, followed by a special event screening of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad on August 4th in honour of the festival, and concludes on August 25th with Takashi Miike’s highly anticipated The Great Yokai War – Guardians, which was recently announced as the festival’s closing film.

    Takashi Miike, a steady yet always surprising presence in the festival’s long history, receives the honour of Closing Film. THE GREAT YOKAI WAR — GUARDIANS, a sequel to THE GREAT YOKAI WAR, premiered at Fantasia in 2006, transports audiences to a whimsical realm of friendly Japanese demons. It’s the perfect film to end the festival’s 25th anniversary, with its kaiju references, uniting tale, joyful atmosphere, passion for popular culture, and magnificent direction from the festival’s favourite filmmaker.
