Simon McQuid directed ‘Mortal Combat’ is all set to hit the theatres this year and be available to stream on HBO Max. The film is the second movie adaptation of the famous ‘Mortal Kombat’ video game series originally developed by Midway Games. The first-ever adaptation of the same was the 1995 film with the same title and directed by Paul Anderson. The most recent release of the game was ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ in 2019, developed by NetherRealm Studios.
What we got from the seconds-long footage
Warner Bros. has quite a handful of movies coming out this year and what’s so special about all of them is that they will be available to stream on HBO Max on the same day as the theatrical release. Based on this, WB has released footage featuring all the films that will reach the fans in 2021, and among those can be seen the first-look at ‘Mortal Kombat’ starring Jessica McNamee, Joe Taslim, Sisi Stringer, and Ludi Lin. The footage shows Hiroyuki Sanada’s character fighting off warriors that could be Lin Kuei Clan members, and we also look at Jessica McNamee’s name pointing at a poster and talking about an invitation the grand martial arts competition. We get a last look at the ‘Mortal Kombat’ film title along with the trademark dragon logo.
