Freddy Krueger At High School Prom!

Freddy Krueger has been the stuff of our nightmares ever since ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ first came out in 1994. Director Wes Craven came up with the film’s idea after having read an article in LA Times about a young boy being haunted in his dreams post the Killing Fields attack in Cambodia that his family survived. The film stars Heather Langenkamp and Johnny Depp and has become a pop culture icon. There are a total of seven films in the franchise and many spin-offs of the same. ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ has many dedicated fans, almost like the ‘Halloween’ or ‘Friday the 13th’ cult, and many of these fans have harnessed their creative prowess over the years to come up with new takes on the story, alternative endings and fan art.

    The trailer

YouTuber Tommy Ross, who is quite the movie buff, has added to the fan art for Freddy Krueger by creating a concept for a new ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ reboot. He has released a trailer for the same and might be onto something. With an upbeat old school advertisement emphasising the importance of going to sleep on time that soon crumbles to sinister music, eerie imagery, and ominous visuals in the dark, the trailer looks like it might just work for a real Warner Bros. film. What’s more is that in this new concept, Krueger arrives at prom! It seems as though a high school prom is on the brink of spoilage when Freddy, along with his malevolent ways, crashes the party. How these kids will survive if at all, can only be known when and if this reboot ever takes place.

Ross’ desire for a Nightmare reboots

Ross speaks to his viewers briefly after the trailer to say that he is astonished that this concept has not made it to the franchise already. He also points out that the infamous clown Pennywise is very much like Freddy Krueger, given how they both use menacing ways to terrorise people by distorting reality. Like ‘It,’ ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ can make great use of modern technology to bring out fear in their audience once again. Tommy Ross has been vocal about wanting to see a new actor take on the role of Freddy, while Ari Aster directs. Aster is a newbie in the industry, with having only two feature films released, but he has made quite the impact with the same. He received great appreciation for his slow-burn cult horror ‘Hereditary’ (2018) and ‘Midsommar’ (2019). The two films were superbly executed and left their audience wanting to see more of the director’s work.
