When Is Girl In The Picture (2022) Releasing?

There are some true crime Netflix programmes that stick with us for a very long time.

Abducted In Plain Sight, a 2017 documentary that attracted a lot of attention in part due to its baffling subject matter, is one of the best films in recent years. It investigated the case of 12-year-old Jan Broberg, who was abducted by Robert Berchtold, a dependable neighbour and close friend of the family. When we find out that Berchtold kidnapped Jan not once, but twice, the already ominous and revolting story takes a tenfold turn for the worst.

Viewers expressed their outrage about the subject matter and the involvement of Jan’s parents as soon as it was released on Netflix. Whatever your opinions of the case may be, there is no doubting that the documentary cemented its position in the history of compelling true crime media.

The same director of that movie, Skye Borgman, is now contributing her skills to a brand-new Netflix docuseries.

With her documentary Abducted in Plain Sight, Skye Borgman stunned the globe in 2017. A young woman and her family were depicted as struggling to fend off a predator trying to kidnap her. Five years later, Borgman and her group are returned to present us with another another completely insane true-crime-based tale. The terrible story of Sharon Marshall and her abusive father, Franklin Floyd, will be told in Girl in the Picture. Franklin Floyd made Sharon Marshall’s life a living hell. Netflix has unveiled a suspenseful trailer for its newest documentary, which will debut on the streaming site on July 6.

The strange death of a young mother and the subsequent abduction of her son shatter a long-standing mystery regarding the woman’s true identity and the violent federal fugitive at the core of it all.

Using material from executive producer and investigative journalist Matt Birkbeck, who wrote two non-fiction books (Finding Sharon and A Beautiful Child) about the documentary’s subject, the young woman known as Sharon Marshall, Lit Hub and CrimeReads have an exclusive first look at the new Netflix documentary, Girl in the Picture. This film was directed by Skye Borgman and produced by Jimmy Fox.

It is based on award-winning investigative journalist Matt Birkbeck’s international best-seller A Beautiful Child and its sequel Finding Sharon. A Beautiful Child’s synopsis states: “Sharon Marshall was a clever and beautiful student with a promising future, until her murdering, fugitive father pulled her into a career of deception that became one of the most puzzling cases in the history of American true crime.

Popular blonde-haired Sharon Marshall, a student at Forest Park High School outside of Atlanta, Georgia, was at the top of her class. She had received a full scholarship to Georgia Tech University to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering while serving as a Lt. Colonel in the Reserve Officers Training Corps. She was the ideal girl next door—kind, giving, and well-mannered. But it took more than ten years to discover Sharon’s peculiar and terrible secrets.

This is the terrifying true account of a strange young woman who became entangled in the homicidal fugitive’s vicious web. It is also a heartbreaking monument to the remarkable bravery and tenacity of one woman who became stuck in the clutches of extreme evil.

The novels made the case of Sharon and her father public, and now more people will be aware of the story of fictitious identities, kidnapping, and murder thanks to this new Netflix documentary.

We see old pictures of Sharon and her father Franklin Floyd in the trailer, but they hide a dark secret. The only person who knew her true identity, according to Birkbeck himself, was her father.

The teaser transports viewers back to 2002, when Matt Birkbeck, an investigative journalist, receives a photograph of a father and daughter. According to Birkbeck, the young girl’s expression told him something was “terribly wrong” right away. Birkbeck, who is well-known for his work on both this case and the well-known crimes surrounding the now-deceased Robert Durst, started to disentangle the web of deceit around the man in the picture very fast.

Floyd was not a person you would want in charge of looking after a child because he was a wanted felon and fugitive with numerous accusations against him. Once it is revealed that Floyd used his daughter as a means of revenue rather than protecting her while she was a teenager, forcing Marshall to work in the exotic dancing business, and changing their names wherever they travelled, the case really starts to take flight. One issue still exists as the team continues to explore: where is Sharon Marshall?

Starting on June 29, 2022, Netflix will release a five-part audio series that will be accessible on the You Can’t Make This Up podcast feed and trace the life and death of Sharon Marshall while delving deeply into the enigma surrounding her identity.

True-crime aficionados may be familiar with Borgman from her work on Abducted in Plain Sight and another recent Hulu release, Dead Asleep. That investigation focused on a homicide in which the accused maintained that he killed his roommate while sleep-walking. It appears that Borgman is back at it with Girl in the Picture, displaying his talent for narrative and providing a solid context to some of the most bizarre cases around. The production, which incorporated content from the author’s two nonfiction books, Finding Sharon and A Beautiful Child, was executive produced by Birkbeck. The producer is Jimmy Fox.

Girl in the Picture is the latest documentary for you if you enjoy a little intrigue with your true crime. A fresh odd element of the case is uncovered with each step toward locating and identifying Marshall. View the trailer and watch the movie when it debuts on July 6 on Netflix.
