The newest development in the Godzilla franchise is the upcoming Warner Bros. film Godzilla vs. Kong, directed by Adam Wingard and set to be released this year after being delayed from its original date of November 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic. The film stars Millie Bobby Brown and Alexander Skarsgård and will be hitting theatres and being available for streaming on HBO Max on March 26th. This Sunday, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures finally dropped the film’s trailer after teasing the fans with posters and short footages for days.
Who was seen in the trailer?
In the trailer, we see Kong doing the bidding for humans and overpowering a frenzied Godzilla, backed by some high-end weaponry. The fans seem to be in splits as to who is the bad guy here. The short video promises many action-packed monster showdown and possibly a cameo by some more creatures from this monster verse, created by Ishirō Honda. However, avid fans have pointed out something way more impressive- it seems like we will get to see the Mechagodzilla in this new instalment of the franchise! While scared citizens run for their life, they seem to be chased by a monster and in a scene that is easy to miss, we see that out of the smoke is emerging this beast.

The trailer gave us a lot, but not too much
For those who don’t know, MechaGodzilla is the fictional monster that first appeared in ‘Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla’ (1974). It is said to be an extraterrestrial villain who, appears with King Ghidorah, the nemesis of Godzilla, in almost all its incarnations. If Mechagodzilla arrived in this new film, it could mean a lot more for the plot than just two titans fighting it out. The story of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ is said to be based on Toho’s Godzilla and Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper’s King Kong, bringing the two monsters together on the big screen and giving the audience a hopefully fulfilling experience and a chance to suspend all disbelief as they watch the two fight it out.
