Netflix is all set to bring Soman Chainani’s best-selling children’s fantasy novel The School for Good and Evil to our TV screens soon. While it was confirmed in early 2020 that Ghostbusters’ director Paul Feig will be working on the show, we are now receiving more information about the cast of the feature film. According to a tweet on Friday by the director, Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington are the latest confirmed additions to the cast. Sophia Wylie, and Sophia Anne Caruso were confirmed in the past to be playing the best friends Agatha and Sophie respectively. Now Charlize Theron, is confirmed to be playing Lady Lesso, the Dean of Evil, and Washington will play Professor Dovey, the Dean of Good and Lady Lesso’s best friend.
When things don’t go according to plan
The School for Good and Evil is a fantasy fairytale series of books set in a location known as the “Endless Woods”. Things quickly seem to go wrong when the two best friends are put in the opposite sides of what they expected. Sophie ends up in the School for Evil while Agatha finds herself if the School for Good. The first novel was published in May of 2013 while the latest one was released on June of 2020. The book series received the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize for Best fiction for 5-12 in the year 2014.

What we know so far
Earlier, shortly after the first book’s release, film studio Universal had acquired the rights to make the series into live action-feature films. It was in 2020 when Netflix announced taking over and subsequently a film adaptation being in the works directed by Paul Feig. While filming began in January 2021 at the Paint Hall Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland; the feature film is not expected to release until 2022. David Magee (Life of Pi) and Laura Solon (Office Christmas Party) are tasked with adapting the novel for the film production.
