Horrifying At First Sight: Kindred Productions Releases Images For Upcoming Horror Fable ‘Shepherd’

The horror thriller ‘Shepherd’ is now set to release in 2021and has released first look images for eager fans. The film is directed by Russell Owen, a UK-based director, and has previously worked on films like ‘Patients of a Saint’ (2019). In partnership with Golden Crab Films, Kindred Productions is now working on finalizing its post-production stage. ‘Shepherd’ has probably already made its way to people’s calendars with a killer cast comprising of Tom Hughes, known for his role in ‘Victoria’ and ‘Red Joan’ and Kate Dickie, famous from ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Summer’.

    The apprehensive synopsis

The film tells Eric, who is working on a remote island located in Scotland, as a shepherd. The character is quite mysterious and seems overtaken by guilt ever since the passing of his peculiar wife. This escape does not work well for Eric as he is soon stuck in a battle with madness. The film’s synopsis points all the right fingers in the direction of a character-driven horror, with undertones of an unreliable protagonist. Whether Eric is really haunted by malevolent forces or is stuck in his guilt-driven insanity might be the big twist at the end of the film, and the first look at some of the posters have given the fans more to look forward to.

    Vibe check

The film seems to be set in the same ambience of Robert Eggers’ ‘The Witch,’ a folktale horror film based in New England that showcases Puritan rigidity at its worst. It is highly speculated that ‘The Lighthouse,’ also directed by Eggers, might be a significant catalyst for ‘Shepherd’. The images from the film’s first look capture a few of the characters in uncanny backdrops. With colour palettes that are gloomy and suspenseful, it already seems like the film will not just be a good scare but evoke feelings of despondence. Director Russell would like to think of ‘Shepherd’ as his first feature film and Sam Orams, co-founder of Kindred with Russell, calls it an “escapist narrative” that will be their intrepid entry into the genre.
