In August of 2020, a show titled Lovecraft Country premiered on HBO and had ten episodes to offer in its opening season. Developed by Misha Green, this show is adapted from Matt Ruff’s novel of the same name. The show tells the story of an African American man, who travels across the US in 1950s, at the peak of segregation, to look for his missing father. However, racism is not all he has to struggle with as he stumbles upon a town which is supposedly a famous location for most of the monsters penned by famous author HP Lovecraft. The show is produced by Bad Robot Productions, Monkeypaw Productions and Warner Bros. Television Studios.
What HBO Chief said about this continuation of the show
Although when the show concluded, no more material was left behind from Lovecraft Country for them to use as a basis for a second season, HBO is still hopeful that it will continue. Chief Content Officer at HBO and HBO Max, Casey Bloys said in a recent interview that series developer Misha Green is currently trying to work something out, along with a few more writers. The first season did stray off the course of the book for some parts, but it never let go of the true spirit of the novel. But if they decide to develop another season, they will be out on a limb and will have to create something that not only does justice to the first season and Ruff’s novel, but also maintains or expands viewership.
