11 Insane Deleted Scenes From Thor Love and Thunder + Cameos That Never Got Into Final Cut

Thor: Love and Thunder appears to have outperformed many of its predecessors, even though Marvel movies are notorious for having a large number of deleted sequences. With a duration of less than two hours, this Taika Waititi production has a few more scenes cut than normal, and even the cast members complained out loud.

For instance, Natalie Portman disclosed that some of the scenes that were not included in the final edit were shot in various ways with several takes. Major cameos that were filmed but did not appear in the film are among those we are currently anticipating seeing on the Blu-ray and DVD releases.

In this video, we will talk about a number of these cut sequences as well as a few big theories that either did not pan out or were not included in the final product. You have been forewarned that there may be some spoilers along the road!

Tattoo Removal Scene of Gorr, the God butcher

Tattoo Removal Scene of Gorr, the God butcher

There is no doubting that Love and Thunder was a thoroughly entertaining movie that your entire family would enjoy seeing, regardless of how you feel about it. However, there is always a cost associated with making something kid-friendly! According to Christian Bale, his on-screen character Gorr, the God Butcher, had a rather graphic scene that was deleted from the finished product. Gorr embarks on his path as a devout follower of his personal God.

He became repulsed by all divine beings as a result of a spate of misfortunes, including the anguish of losing his daughter in front of his eyes. After combining with the Necrosword, he gained the powers required to slay Gods, and from a spiritual fellow he turned into a violent extremist.

In the later stages of the movie, you can see a lot of scars on Gorr’s face and body, and this is where there were several tattoos previously. These tattoos were a symbol of his devotion and displayed his piousness, but the changes in his character prompted him to get rid of them in a rather drastic manner. It was planned that Gorr would scrape off the tattoos from his body, resulting in all the scars.

Unfortunately, this sequence was deemed to be a bit too extreme, and the final version of the movie did not include it. Christian Bale did not seem agitated about the editing work and he seemed to agree that the scene was not suitable for a movie that intended to entertain children as well as adults. However, those who missed the truly dark and grim version of Gorr in the movie and found the narrative to be too light-hearted would have surely appreciated the inclusion of such an impactful scene!

    Captain Marvel and Valkyrie Relationship

    Captain Marvel and Valkyrie Relationship

The chance of a relationship brewing between Captain Marvel and Valkyrie was considered ever since Valkyrie’s sexuality became an open secret. While this is not actually a deleted scene, it is one that kept the rumor mills running over time. This was one of the most talked-about possibilities for the movie Thor: Love and Thunder, but nothing of that sorts happened.

Tessa Thompson, who plays the role, is actually optimistic that such a story arc could be explored in the future. Before the release of the movie, she had revealed in an interview that the sexuality of Valkyrie would become a major plot point in the film. Since we don’t see anything like that it can be assumed that things were either edited out or never considered for filming in the first place.

She kept the fans guessing with the statement that finding a romantic match for herself did not define her character, and she still remains a fabulous queer character who is open to finding love. The film does show that Valkyrie has her hands full with the duties as the leader of New Asgard in Thor’s absence.

She continues to be a badass warrior, and with the responsibilities on her, maybe it will take some time before she can allow herself the privilege of romance. She did have a genuine friendship developing with Jane in the movie, and their bonding was fun to watch. Tessa Thompson has stated that she wouldn’t mind Valkyrie romancing Captain Marvel in the future, especially because Brie Larson, the actress playing the role, is a dear friend of hers.

    Peter Dinklage as Eitri

    Peter Dinklage as Eitri

Peter Dinklage has an insane fan following, and the Game of Thrones star was all set to reprise his role as Eitri in the movie Thor: Love and Thunder. Much to the disappointment of the fans, the final cut of the movie features no such scene, but it is also evident that Peter Dinklage did film for a couple of scenes. In an interview, Christian Bale spilled the beans on Peter Dinklage’s appearance in the movie, when he seemed elated about getting to work with him.

Even the actor had hinted about his comeback when asked a question regarding the same. Eitri previously appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, where the King of the Dwarves helped in the creation of Stormbreaker for Thor. While we see both the Mjolnir and Stormbreaker in Love and Thunder, Eitri’s role has been edited out probably because they wanted the run-time to be crisp and concise.

It would have made more sense if Eitri helped in the restoration of the Mjolnir, rather than everything happening magically all of a sudden. When people saw the cracks on the Mjolnir in the trailer, they started believing that the iconic Peter Dinklage would be seen in action yet again, and all these fans would have to return home dejected because of the rampant cuts that the movie suffered.

    Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster

    Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster

Jeff Goldblum was very impressive as the comical Grandmaster in Ragnarok, the ruler of Sakaar, where Thor found himself among the likes of Valkyrie and Hulk. The fans were rooting for a reprisal of the role and before the release of Love and Thunder the rumors were suggesting that the actor was indeed going to be a part of the movie. He even shot for a few scenes, and Christian Bale was excited about getting to work with him.

Taika Waititi initially planned to bring back some of the evergreen characters from the previous adventures of Thor, and the Grandmaster was always in the scheme of things. It turned out to be a bummer when we discovered that the final cut of the movie decided to chop off these bits.

Since the tone of the film is purposely kept light-hearted, a character as witty and quirky as the Grandmaster would have certainly added to the comedy value. Maybe the reasons behind the omission could be something that only the director can answer best because it is beyond us! As of now, it just seems to be a rather long wait before we see him again in Marvel colors.

    Lena Headey’s cameo

    Lena Headey’s cameo

She made a few heads turn as Queen Cercei from Game of Thrones, and her performance as a negative character shed some light on her phenomenal acting skills. It was a very exciting prospect when it was revealed that she would appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the rumors also suggested that she would be seen as a fellow Valkyrie.

The actress, however, ran into some legal trouble with her previous agency Troika, and she is now being sued for a huge amount of approximately $1.5 million, which includes a cut from her fees for Love and Thunder. The actress claims that she doesn’t have any written contract with Troika, and the claims made by them are completely unfounded.

While the verdict on the legal hassle is yet to be known, it became pretty clear that her role was chopped off in the final edits for the movie. The fans missed out on another power-packed performance from the veteran actress who would have certainly added value to the film. We hope that these deleted scenes are officially released someday, so that the viewers can at least see how Lena Headey is featured in the scheme of things in the narrative.

    Jane and Valkyrie’s deleted scene

    Jane and Valkyrie’s deleted scene

After a series of deleted cameo performances, let us focus on some of the on-screen characters with major scenes chopped off. We have already mentioned how Natalie Portman was vocal about substantial footage not making the final version of the film. Taika Waititi apparently prefers to film many of the scenes in different ways, and some of these are always up for sacrifice. While some deleted scenes got featured in the movie through an alternate version, a few others were skipped altogether. These included a few sequences featuring Jane and Valkyrie, and it becomes clear when you watch the movie.

We see a great bond developing between the two, but it never really explores the root of their friendship. Apparently, some of these scenes that revolved around their relationship were removed because the director wanted to fit the movie into a certain run-time.

Since the element of humor and love takes precedence over serious action in Love and Thunder, maybe these deleted scenes would make more sense if they were included! It does seem like such a waste to make two professional actors sweat it out through repeated takes and then just leave the scene aside!

Emotional moments between Jane and Thor

Emotional moments between Jane and Thor

Thor and Jane’s relationship was one of the central topics of the movie, and the awkwardness between the ex-lovers blooming into their repressed love for each other was adorable to watch. There is a considerable amount of screen-time for the two, where we watch them take down Gorr, the God Butcher and his Shadow Monsters. Taika Waititi doesn’t compromise on the emotional scenes between them, especially the one where Jane dies in his arms after making the ultimate sacrifice for him by wielding the Mjolnir one last time!

That being said, it has been revealed by Natalie Portman herself that there was more to their relationship that escaped the final results of the movie. Thor and Jane had some very emotional moments, and it could be possible that the scenes were thought to be a bit too serious for a movie targeted toward a young audience.

Natalie Portman’s thoughts are exactly in line with what Christian Bale feels about the flurry of deleted sequences, and both are of the opinion that such things are inevitable while also praising the quality and value of the deleted footage. This particular deleted scene, we are not really complaining about because there is already far too much importance assigned to their relationship in the existing footage! Maybe, the inclusion of the deleted parts would have made things a bit too soapy for comfort!

Beta Ray Bill, the Thunder God deleted cameo

Beta Ray Bill, the Thunder God deleted cameo

This is a character that the fans have been waiting for eagerly to be a part of the MCU. This horse-headed Korbonite alien was deemed by Odin to be fit for possessing Thor’s powers, and he has been the alternate Thunder God in the comic books. The Stormbreaker that Thor currently uses in MCU was actually wielded by Beta Ray Bill, and there couldn’t be a better helping hand for Thor in his fight against Gorr, the God Butcher! The character came very close to having a cameo appearance in Ragnarok but the creators decided against it because they wanted to use him in a greater capacity.

Before the release of Love and Thunder, it was rumored that Beta Ray Bill could well be in the scheme of things, but the end results left the fans disheartened. It seems like Marvel once again gave us a miss on this one, and it could well be due to the extravagant CGI required to portray him on-screen. That being said, it can be debated how such a big-budget venture would shy away from bringing him into the story arc simply because of the cost involved! While you will not see him in Love and Thunder, it can be said with certainty that his appearance would have been a real showstopper for the movie!

    Gamora from New Reality

    Gamora from New Reality

It was pretty clear from the trailer that the entire team of Guardians of the Galaxy would have a role to play in Love and Thunder. We did get to see Star-Lord, Groot, Nebula, Mantis, and Rocket Racoon back in action, although their screen time was rather limited. They participated in a mission alongside Thor, where they protect an alien race from an invading species, but their journey together is cut short pretty early in the movie.

Gamora, however, continues to be missing although many had guessed that she would show up alongside the others. Her character, played by Zoe Saldana, died in the MCU timeline when Thanos sacrificed her to gain possession of the Soul Stone. If she did have to appear, it would have to be Gamora from another universe and while we did hope against hope for some reality-altering version of Gamora, the movie simply stepped aside these possibilities.

    Comeback of Loki

    Comeback of Loki

Is Loki truly gone from MCU? This has been a question that stirred up furious debates on the internet, and the fans are divided on their opinion over this. Tom Hiddleston who plays the role was last seen in the Disney+ series, but the MCU timeline saw him being killed by Thanos. The actor stated in an interview that he wasn’t too sure about being a part of Love and Thunder, but that didn’t stop the rumors from going strong about a possible return.

He has always been a part of all Thor movies in some capacity, and the predictions suggested that we could expect a return of Loki in this film. However, the rumors turned out to be baseless because Tom Hiddleston never filmed for Love and Thunder and you don’t have a single scene featuring him in the movie. It surely would have been fun to watch the brotherly banter between Thor and Loki, but that was not to be! The only hint of Loki we get to see is Matt Damon playing the role in a comical play organized in New Asgard as a part of his brief cameo.

During the infamous scene where Thor is disrobed by Zeus in Omnipotence City, we get to see that he has a tattoo tribute remembering his brother on his back. Loki is going to be seen in season two of the Disney+ series, and since it has been stated that Thor will be back, we can hope for his return in the MCU timeline as well.

    Adam Warlock’s rumored cameo

    Adam Warlock’s rumored cameo

This was yet another infamous rumor that was busted when the movie was released. During the making of Love and Thunder, fans were hyped up about the possibility of watching Adam Warlock in the movie. There was a popular fan art being circulated, which depicted Thor fighting Gorr, the God Butcher as Adam Warlock. All these turned out to be far-fetched imaginations because Adam Warlock is still on hold in terms of the MCU.

Adam Warlock is an artificial, perfect humanoid, and he rebelled against his creators following a conflict with Thor. He travels through space, encounters various adventures, and is almost like a cosmic entity with incredible powers. It has been revealed that Adam Warlock will be played by Will Poulter in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so luckily for the fans, it will not be a very long wait with the movie slated for release next year.

Marvelous Verdict: Too precious to be deleted and omitted!

Marvelous Verdict Too precious to be deleted and omitted!

Some of the cameos feature such big names that it makes you wonder if it was worth cutting their roles short. We believe that the movie would have done fine, probably better, with longer run-time, and the fans certainly wouldn’t have complained about watching their favorite stars in fun little cameos.

Hiring megastars who charge a bomb and finally omitting the entire part is a luxury that a brand like Marvel can afford! Do let us know in the comments below about the deleted scenes and cameos, and also let us know about the ones that you would have loved to see most!
