Interview With The Vampire Is Back! – New TV Series Announced By AMC

Interview with the Vampire is being adapted for television by AMC. The Anne Rice novel, which was previously adapted into a film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, is getting a brand-new adaptation in the shape of an eight-part limited series. Rolin Jones, who co-created Perry Mason, is creating the new series for AMC and will also act as the showrunner and writer.

This project is the first to be publicly revealed as a result of AMC Networks purchasing the rights to Rice’s literary work last year. The tales from Rice are being developed for AMC by producer Mark Johnson. Executive producers will include Jones, Johnson, Rice, and her son Christopher Rice.

Interview with the Vampire was written by Anne Rice and first published in 1976. Rice would eventually write the script for Neil Jordan’s 1994 film adaption. The film chronicles Lestat (Tom Cruise) and Louis (Brad Pitt) from Louis’ transformation into a vampire by Lestat in 1791 through their transformation of a 10-year-old child (Kirsten Dunst) into a vampire in the present day. The story is relayed to a reporter in the present day by Louis, hence the title. Christian Slater, Antonio Banderas, and Stephen Rea also played roles in the film.

The sequel Queen of the Damned was released in 2002 by Warner Bros., however it did not have Cruise and Pitt repeating their roles. Multiple attempts to develop a new film based on Rice’s vampire novels have subsequently been made, but none of them has been able to gain traction for years, for better or for worse. Josh Boone explicitly wanted to create a new film adaptation at one point, but the project fell through once Anne Rice reclaimed control of her works.

AMC announcing Interview with the Vampire also arrives at a time when vampire fiction is making a comeback on television. In 2022, AMC will air Interview with the Vampire. You may always watch the original film in the meantime!
