Is Overlord Connected To Cloverfield Universe? Explained And Revealed!

In earlier videos, we dissected the Cloverfield franchise in-depth, delving further into the films, the origins of the Clover monsters, and the alternate dimension theory in particular. But today’s video is sure to be even more entertaining, and trust us when we say you are in for a treat!

Is Overlord Related to the Cloverfield Universe, as the title of this video suggests? With a screenplay by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith, there is no denying that Julius Avery’s 2018 action horror film, Overlord, produced by J. J. Abrams under his Bad Robot Productions banner, is an original story with numerous hints pointing to how it could link itself to rampaging sea monsters, alien invasions, and space station crises, for starters.

Overlord is a stand-alone film set against the backdrop of the 1944 D-Day landings, and it includes everything from Nazis to secret experiments to the undead all rolled into one. The film, which won two honors at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, follows a parachute team on a mission to smash a German radio-jamming tower within an old church on the eve of D-Day.

Their plane is fired down and crashes before reaching its intended location. Corporal Lewis Ford, Private First Class Edward Boyce, Private First Class Lyle Tibbet, and Private Morton Chase are the only survivors to make it out of the plane alive. They meet a young French woman from the village and take refuge in her home, only to discover that the church contains much more than radio equipment.

They learn about the heinous Nazi experiments being conducted in the church and conclude that the Germans have been working on a serum that turns humans into uncontrollable, violent, deformed zombies. Okay, we understand your confusion – how is this a Cloverfield film? Hold on, we will get to it eventually!

First Things First; Is OverLord A Cloverfield Movie?

First Things First; Is OverLord A Cloverfield Movie

Well at first, it was believed that Cloverfield was more like an anthology series. Dan Trachtenberg’s 2016 science fiction psychological thriller, 10 Cloverfield Lane looked like it took place in a world that was very different as compared to the 2008 found-footage monster movie, Cloverfield.

But then again, the 2018 science fiction horror flick, The Cloverfield Paradox changed that when it opened portals to infinite parallel dimensions allowing their horrors to threaten our world – all thanks to a dangerous space experiment creating a rift between space and time. So, whether Overlord is connected to the Cloverfield Universe has been a matter of discussion for a very long time; in fact, way before The Cloverfield Paradox had been released. You know there was a time right when Avery’s Overlord was actually stated as the fourth entry in the Cloverfield franchise.

However, both Abrams, as well as Avery, kept insisting that Overlord was a standalone movie, one that had nothing to do with Cloverfield. But the solitary fact that all the Cloverfield movies have been thriving on Abram’s trademark secrecy, some of them have had their movie titles changed even after production and most important events that take place in Overlord, makes one often wonder how effortlessly Overlord could have been a Cloverfield movie.

How Can Overlord Be A Cloverfield Movie?

    OVERLORD

On a broader level, the Cloverfield timeline simply implied that the horrors of the parallel dimensions have been transported to our world at different points in time and space. This particular door that The Cloverfield Paradox opened meant a gateway for anything and everything to take place. Well, putting stress on the movie, Overlord, the Nazis are shown reviving the dead with the help of a serum that they have extracted from the soil underneath a French Church. The film also has a large pit filled with this mysterious black tar on display.

So, it is more or less safe to say that the power to create invincible zombies originated from some sort of an extra-dimensional force or in simple words, there is just no reason why Paradox should not be held responsible for bringing over extraterrestrial elements that somehow made their way into the French terrain causing it to become infected. Also, just another thought that why would, out of every other place, everything evil in the movie take place beneath a church, a place that’s meant to be sacred in the very first place. Something to think about, right?

If you have paid close attention to Overlord, you will remember the secret laboratory had a lot of technology that seemed way ahead of its time. You know things ranging from incubators, engines to even the revival tanks for that matter. So, there is this high possibility of a rift resulting in technology from the future, who knows maybe from the Shepard particle accelerator itself!

After all, the vicious Germans did reveal that their aim was to create immortal and invincible super soldiers to serve the Reich. The movie ultimately did have the technology, monsters, and the characteristic sagacity of shrouding mystery, one that is quite identical with the Cloverfield multiverse.

    New Cloverfield Movie Is Coming!

    New Cloverfield Movie Is Coming!

Well, of course, we have some great news for the Cloverfield franchise fans out there. There is a new movie in the works, one that will have J. J. Abrams as the producer and Joe Barton as the screenwriter. According to Abrams, this movie is going to be quite loyal to its previous counterpart. Having said that, no it is not going to be a found-footage sequel, nor will it be an extension of its predecessor. Barton has been given the liberty to craft the story the way he wants to. Details about the new movie have still not been disclosed so we are left with not many options but to wait for it to hit the theaters. We at Marvelous Videos have our fingers crossed for this one!
