The much-awaited series “Shining Girls,” which will premiere internationally on Friday, April 29, 2022, has been given a premiere date and a first look via Apple TV+. The metaphysical thriller is executive produced by Appian Way and stars and is executive produced by Emmy Award-winning actress Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Mad Men”), with Emmy Award-winner Michelle MacLaren (“Breaking Bad”) directing the first two episodes.

The eight-episode series, which was adapted for television and executive produced by showrunner Silka Luisa, will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with the first three episodes, followed by one new episode every Friday.

Shinning Girls is based on Lauren Beukes’ bestselling novel, and it follows Kirby Mizrachi (Moss), a Chicago newspaper archivist whose journalistic ambitions were put on hold after she was assaulted. When Kirby discovers that a recent murder resembles her own, she teams up with veteran but disturbed reporter Dan Velazquez (played by Wagner Moura) to track out her assailant. As they learn how intertwined these cold cases are, their own personal traumas and Kirby’s hazy reality allow her assailant to stay one step ahead.

Elisabeth Moss plays Chicago newspaper archivist Kirby Mazrachi, who put her journalistic dreams on hold after a brutal assault, in the Apple TV+ metaphysical thriller, which premieres on Friday, April 29 (with the first three episodes). When she discovers that a new murder resembles her own, she teams up with veteran and troubled reporter Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura) to track out her assailant. They recognize the connections between these cold cases, but their own personal traumas and Kirby’s hazy reality allow her assailant to stay one step ahead.

Did we mention that? It’s not your typical murder mystery since the killer is extremely powerful and has the ability to travel through time and space. Yes, you heard me correctly; I will not repeat myself.

We’re all set as long as the killer’s adventure continues.

There are eight episodes in total in the series. Moss will exclusively produce and direct the project, which will appeal to Moss’s admirers who want to see her in a different light than they did in The Handmaid’s Tale.

The trailer shows several hairstyles for Moss’ Kirby, which hints at the movie’s distorted reality. “Everything is the same as it has always been,” she says.

“And suddenly it’s not,” says the narrator. “Things aren’t as they were before I went. Things aren’t working out the way they should. Because of what he did, everything changed.”

“Nobody remembers anything different,” she adds, amidst even more bizarre pictures. Then it happens once more. And once more. And once more. He is everyone. He’s a no-one. He’s always there.” Reality is a question of perspective, as the trailer suggests.

Phillipa Soo, Amy Brenneman, and Jamie Bell feature in Shining Girls, which is based on Lauren Beukes’ bestselling novel.

Showrunner Silka Luisa developed and executive produced the eight-episode series. Directed by Moss, Michelle MacLaren, and Daina Reid. Moss, MacLaren, Reid, Beukes, Lindsey McManus, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Michael Hampton, Rebecca Hobbs, and Alan Page Arriaga also serve as executive producers.

Shining Girls premieres on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 29.
