    Between 1999-2002, Julie worked hosted the CBS morning news and CBS This morning with some of the biggest names in the business like Jane Clayson and Harry Smith. For eight years after that she was part of the Early Show in the capacity of a host.

    They began dating each other while Les was still married to his ex-wife Nancy Wiesenfeld, as the couple was headed towards divorce due to irreconcilable differences. This resulted in immense media attention being given to both the divorce and Julie’s relationship with Les. Les and his former wife got divorced early in December of 2004 and on December 24 2004, Julie and Les made their relationship and romance official by tying the knot in a beautiful and intimate wedding on a Mexican island. Les’s kids from his marriage with Nancy are brought up by Les and Julie along with their son, Charlie.  

    Almost a decade prior to dating and eventually getting Les, Julie was in a public and long-term relationship with Gary Donahue. However, the couple parted ways because they weren’t the right fit for one another.

In an interview where she was talking about the pressure due to which she had undergo this surgery, she spoke of how the news director relegated her to never being in front of the camera because of her Chinese ancestry.

    Another instance of blatant racism was when Julie’s agent, someone who ideally is looking out for you and getting you the best work based on the incredible talent you bring to the table, flat out refused to continue to be Julie’s agent until she got her “eyes fixed” through surgery.

    Throughout her career, Julie has experienced people telling her that she will not make it big in TV because of her Chinese features. However, her position as one of the most famous anchor on American television is a testament to how wrong the racist nay-sayers were.

    While these decisions were taken by Julie under considerable pressure from her work, she consented to these decisions and this caused significant issues with her family and with her fans. However, Julie did not allow for it to bring her down by owning her decisions as her own, by never living in the past and having a forward looking attitude.
