Renowned action director Renny Harlin, who had once made movies like Prison, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and The Exorcist: The Beginning, is set to make his comeback the horror genre. The Refuge, a horror thriller, has a script by Ben Sztajnkrycer. The film is to begin shooting soon, and currently, the cast of the movie is being decided. Director Harlin, in a recent interview, has stated his love for creating horror movies because of the visual opportunities and character studies they offer. Instead of being just another movie about a haunted house or another slasher movie, it is an inspection of the human mind when possessed.
More than just another slasher movie
The plot of the movie is based on Sergeant Rick Pedroni, a US Army Veteran who returns home after a tour of Afghanistan. But he does not return as the same person who left, thanks to a demonic force he was attacked by while in Afghanistan. When he tries to talk about this to the officials back home, his behaviour is quickly dismissed as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, as it is a common happening with soldiers who have been to war. However, during his treatment, his wife Kate discovers that her husband is indeed possessed and must now do whatever it takes to save him from the sinister forces of evil.
