When Is Love Accidentally (2022) Releasing?

Even in the greatest scenarios, large-scale political satire is challenging to execute. Ambitious filmmakers who think they’ve found their Dr. Strangelove may quickly discover, after a few missteps, that they are the creators of Southland Tales or American Dreamz. The production of David O. Russell’s film Nailed, about a waitress who champions health care reform after getting a nail in her head, wasn’t exactly ideal.

After repeated production halts due to finance issues in 2008, the director quit the project in the middle of production. The unimpressively renamed Accidental Love was swiftly snatched up onto VOD somewhere in the seven years since (directing credit belongs to the fictitious “Stephen Greene”). Despite having big-name stars, its time in cinemas will be quite limited even if it is scheduled to debut in a month.

A construction worker inadvertently kills Jessica Biel’s character, Alice, with a nail gun as she prepares to get engaged to a hunka-hunka cop (James Marsden). When a paper pusher runs in to tell that Alice has no insurance, surgeons are just about to remove the offending spike after being taken to the hospital. The physicians put down their scalpels, pick up cheeseburgers, and begin a lunch break right there in the OR, relieved that they didn’t start a job they wouldn’t get paid for. Before the nail slips and turns Alice into a drooling invalid, Alice will need to find a method to pay for the surgery.

The evidence suggests Nailed had problems even before the money ran out, assuming Russell shot some of the high-pitched domestic conflagrations that soon send our heroine from her small Indiana town to Washington, DC. Russell pulled off some outrageous moments in I Heart Huckabees, the feature he made before this one. While Marsden is well suited for parts of his character, he isn’t the kind of foil-turned-instigator of living-room silliness that Mark Wahlberg and Bradley Cooper were in Huckabees and Silver Linings Playbook, respectively.

Kurt Fuller and Tracy Morgan, two out-of-place supporting characters, are defined by their medical conditions in the script (co-written by Kristin Gore, Al’s daughter), one-joke conditions that are supposed to generate chuckles throughout. Furthermore, a lot of the action is so stupid that it’s difficult to envision it working on screen. Examples include a veterinarian trying to remove a nail and a politician dying conveniently.

When Alice travels to Washington to seek assistance from a rookie congressman (Jake Gyllenhaal) whose political survival depends on appeasing his party’s whip, things become more generally unpleasant (Catherine Keener). Even if the plot hadn’t degraded tremendously in the years since Obamacare entered the picture, the film’s cheapo atmosphere is made worse by a poor score by John Swihart.

Song portrays Alexa, a character who is down on her luck and gets dumped on her birthday, in Love Accidentally, Amazon Freevee’s first original film. However, when she and her coworker Jason (Aaron O’Connell) are competing for the same promotion at their advertising agency, things might be looking up. Alexa unintentionally texts Jason with a heartbroken message after thinking she had texted a friend. Through text messages, the two begin a secretive connection without knowing each other’s true identities. Will they be able to put their competition aside and let true love triumph when the truth is revealed?

The upcoming romantic comedy’s original teaser, which exclusively premieres on ET, teases the unusual romance between Alexa and Jason. They are competing against one another for the lucrative director of sales position, but they also both have a lot going on in their personal lives because they have recently experienced heartbreak.

Alexa unintentionally sent a sensitive text to Jason when she sent it to her friend while she meant for it to go to her buddy. And, as the teaser demonstrates, the two start an odd friendship that develops into a romantic relationship over the phone as they reveal their deepest concerns and most vulnerable areas to someone they mistake for a stranger.

Alexa cries as she unwittingly confides in Jason, “For the first time in my life, I feel like I’m out of control.” Later, he complimented her for having the courage to express her sentiments in that way, saying, “Run with it.” It’s obvious that the two are smitten with one another, and when one of Jason’s friends says “the girl of his dreams could be sitting at that table,” Jason begins to second-guess their faceless conversations. He offers via text, “I think we should meet.” There won’t be a catastrophe, right?

The romantic comedy also stars Denise Richards and Maxwell Caulfield from Grease 2. Peter Sullivan is the director, and Barry Barnholtz and Jeffrey Schenck are the executive producers.

Love Accidentally debuts on Amazon’s Freevee on Friday, July 15.
