Let us chat about who she is before we tell you more about her. She made her debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 (November 1980), and she stood out more than any previous Spider-Man or Woman variant. A radioactive spider did not bite her, nor was she a radioactive human who a spider bit. She was a mutant with precognitive abilities and clairvoyance. She was also pictured sitting on a throne that looked like a web of spiders.

Madame Web’s real name was Cassandra Webb. She’s not only different from any other Spider variant we have seen, but her conditions are also different. She was born paralyzed, blind, and even had telepathic powers, which allowed her to work as a telepathic medium! Initially, she was struck with myasthenia gravis, which made breathing and moving on her own pretty hard, which made her rely on life support, which her husband Jonathan Webb designed himself.

When Spider-Man approached her to help find kidnapped Daily Globe publisher K.J. Clayton, she kindly helped him with her powers. She located both the real and fake K.J. Clayton and told Spider-Man that she had found out his secret identity. This revelation surprised Spider-Man like hell, but he decided to trust her in his upcoming journeys.

The name of Madame Web might sound sinister, but in reality, she is nowhere near ever, nor does she play a villainous role in Spider-Man’s life.

In the “Nothing can stop the Juggernaut!” storyline, Cassandra contacted Peter for help when Black Tom Cassidy left the Juggernaut on a rampage in hopes of catching her and using her powers to defeat the X-Men. Still, when she was finally caught and removed from her life support by the Juggernaut, she almost died because of the sudden removal of the machine. This enraged Spider-Man to the limit, where he stopped pulling his punches toward the red giant charging toward him. They got into a vicious battle, and Spider-Man soon trapped him in wet cement and beat him unconscious.

After Spider-Man realized what had happened to her properly, he realized that the shock from the system ALMOST made her lose her memories of his real identity.

During the early 90s, when her character had spin-offs made of her, and she appeared in various Spider-Man animations, Cassandra was lured by Norman Osborn and participated in an arcane ritual known as “The Gathering of the Five.” This ritual gave her immortality and took away all her physical disabilities, and even brought back her youth. This new body of hers was in her prime, and there were very few people who could have beaten her at that time. She started going around with the name Spider-Woman and even was the mentor of the third Spider-Woman, Mattie Franklin.

After missing from the comic books for a short time, Madam Web made a comeback with all her physic powers in the Decimation issue, but what seemed to be the issue was that she had regained her old form. In Decimation, 98% of all mutants had lost their powers thanks to Scarlet Witch. But Madame Web stayed unaffected by this, and it was speculated that it was because of the ritual which caused her to retain her powers even after such a powerful change in the universe, but it caused her to grow back old and lose her immortality as well. After all, you can’t eat your cake and have it as well.

She soon returns to help Peter Parker in Amazing Spider-Man #600 and gets caught in a battle between Spiderman and the family of Kraven the Hunter.

In this issue, she looked into Spider-Man’s future and saw someone unravelling the web of fate. This shocked her to the core, and she said, “They are hunting Spiders,” referring to hunting the different variants of Spider-Man and his subordinates.

Soon after, she was attacked by Ana Kravinoff and her mother, Sasha Kravinoff. The pair quickly gained the upper hand on her and incapacitated her, and claimed to have their “eyes.” She was forced to watch her pupil, Mattie, get tortured and interrogated by the Kravinoffs and even had to see the gruesome death of Mattie at the hands of Sasha Kravinoff.

Soon it was revealed that Julia Carpenter, the second Spider-Woman who was going around with the name of Arachne at the time, was also involved in the fight between Spider-Man and the Kravinoffs.

Sadly, during the “Grim Hunt,” Madame Web had her throat slashed by Sasha, who believed her to be deceiving them, and even at her death, she wanted her death to be meaningful and gave her psychic abilities to Julia Carpenter, making her the next Madame Web.

Who is Julia Carpenter, and what was her role as Madame Web?

Who is Julia Carpenter, and what was her role as Madame Web

Julia’s origin can be traced back to 1984’s epic Secret Wars mini-series. Over there, she was introduced as a brand-new hero who was taking over the mantle of Spider-Woman from the previous Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew.

Soon, during the Secret Wars saga, we got to know that a secretive government organization called ‘The Commission’ created their own superheroes to use as soldiers. Over there, they convinced Julia, a single mother, earning hard to pay for everything, to become a test subject.

Unknown to her, they conducted various experiments on her. They injected Julia with a mix of Spider Venom and exotic plant extracts which gave Julia almost identical powers to Spider-Man. But unlike Spider-Man, her webs were psionic in nature, and hence she could spin them out purely from mental energy. *Insert “Oh my god, wwwooowww” meme*

She is just as badass as Spider-Man, and honestly, we should be glad that she decided to become a hero instead of a villain, or else our Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man would be in deep trouble.

Julia joined many superhero forces like Freedom Force and West Coast Avengers. In the upcoming years, she seemed to gain and lose her powers more than once, but it did not stop her from doing what was right.

When she had her powers, she made sure to fight crime and win for good, and during her time off when she had no powers, she focused on becoming a good mother and raising her daughter Rachel.

When the original Spider-Woman returned, she changed her name to Arachne and subsequently helped Spider-Man in many cases.

After the death of the original Madame Web, she was given all the powers of Madame Web along with her blindness.

During this time, Spider-Man and his allies and Julia discovered the Great Web. The Great Web was a three-dimensional space that acted like Marvel’s entire Multiverse! Man, why are all these stories sooooo complex?

It was revealed that Spider-Man and all the other people related to Spiders, in this case, drew their powers from the Web of Life, and both the women named Madame Web had direct connections with the Great Web, which allowed them to perceive things Spider-Man could not.

    Faith of a child

    faith of a child

In this episode, Madame Web decided to train Spider-Man from Earth 92131. Just as Peter Parker was deciding to quit being Spider-Man, he was approached by Madame Web in an alleyway and was teleported into her parlour. Suddenly out of nowhere, Spider-Man realized he was back in his costume. He was told by Madame Web that she was going to start training him for a mission that she would require him for.

As always, she gave him a cryptic message saying that he must have the faith of a child before vanishing into thin air.

Later that very night, Spider-Man met a cute little kid named Maria Taina Elizandro who was one of his biggest fans. Soon after this encounter, Spider-Man was captured by Dock Ock, who erased Spider Man’s memories and made him think they were partners in crime.

After a series of unaccounted crimes, Taina tracked him down and was able to make him remember who he truly was. Spider-Man hugged her, beat the living hell out of Dock Ock, and regained faith in himself because of Taina. That is when Spidey realized what Madame Web was actually trying to teach him.

After beating Dock Ock, Madame Web reappeared in front of him and told him that they had work to do and that soon he would face his greatest challenge. Just as Spider-Man was about to question her about the challenge, she vanished again.

    Seriosly? Atlest help him out!

It’s not the how you must master, it’s the why

It's not the how you must master, it's the why

Shortly after Kingpin had turned Alistair Smythe into a Spider-Slayer, he made him attack Spider-Man. Just as Spider-Man was about to be killed, Madame Web teleported Spidey away, saving his life.

As the two of them made strategies to beat Smythe because he was way too strong to be beaten alone, Madame Web asked him to pay attention to ask why instead of how he was so powerful, such as why Smythe wanted Spider-Man dead.

Later on, Spider-Man broke into Crime Central to rescue Mary Jane, Harry Osborn, and Norman Osborn, who Smythe had kidnapped. Spider man secretly eavesdropped on Kingpin and learned that Spencer Smythe, Alistair’s father, was still alive and being kept inside Crime Central. During this conversation, a guard saw Spider-Man, and Kingpin ordered Smythe to eliminate Spider-Man.

Just as the battle between Smythe and Spider-Man started, Smythe easily overpowered Spidey and was just about to kill him, but, just before Smythe landed his final blow, Spider-Man remembered Madame Web’s words telling him to question why Smythe was trying to kill him. He realized that he would need to use his brains instead of his brute strength this time. He quickly broke free from Smythe’s grasp and leapt to a huge monitor, where he revealed to Smythe that his father was still alive. This revelation enraged Smythe to the core, and he turned against Kingpin.

After all these encounters and several more episodes, it is clear that instead of the main character, Madame Web is more like a mentor to Spider-Man and is probably one of the only people who would never betray him, making her even more valuable to his team. Clearly, she deserves a movie of her own… right?

Madame Web and her upcoming movie

Madame Web and her upcoming movie

For all the movie lovers out here, Madame Web is finally getting a movie! Most people who first heard this were probably unsure about how to feel after the… well… “AmAzInG” performance Morbius gave us. We all know the back story of Madame Web now, and you are probably thinking, “But how is the movie going to be interesting if she just sits in her chair the whole movie?”

Well, we have an answer to that, which is that she will NOT be like her character in the comics. That is right; Sony is going to change up a few details about the character so that the story is more viable, and honestly, Madame Web’s storyline and movie coming right now make the most sense, as we saw in Spider-Man: No way Home, Peter is at his all-time lowest, and this is probably the perfect time for her to show up.

As you all must have heard, Dakota Johnson will be playing Madame Web, also known as Cassandra Webb. She had been rumoured for months to be playing a part in this movie, and finally, her role has officially been confirmed! I, personally, never thought that we would get someone like Dakota playing Madame Webb, but hey, I ain’t complainin’.

Next up, we have Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter. I know, I know, we all wanted her to play Spider Gwen or Black Cat or something, but no, she will be playing the next Madame Web and current Spider Woman.

We are also going to get Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin and Isabela Merced as Anya Corazon. Both these characters are also going to have Spider-Man-like powers, and as we know, Mattie is Cassandra’s pupil; it will clearly be interesting to see how Sony plays that into the movie.

If you thought this, was it, you are so wrong because it turns out Adam Scott is going to play one other than Spider Man’s uncle, Ben Parker, in his youth!

We also have Emma Roberts, who will be playing the Mother of Peter Parker, and as pictures suggest, she has been shown with a pregnant belly, and if our speculations are right, that right there is little Peter Parker in his mother’s belly! Oh my God!!!

We are getting two characters who have never been described in the stories before, considering we have never really seen Mary Parker in the movies and nor have we seen a young uncle Ben. This new outlook by Sony puts a whole new perspective on the story, and it really is starting to sound like a movie we all have seen and love. Could not guess? Well, the movie sounds a lot like a robot going back in the past to kill the main hero. Ring a bell now?

Even though we do not know who the villain really is, we can speculate that he or she is going back in time to hunt down Peter, or they are going to try to kill Mary or Ben in order to stop Peter from even being born and even though some articles suggest it might be Ezekiel, we still cannot be too sure because after all, it is Marvel we are talking about.

And are you ready for one more interesting fact? There is a rumour that Sony is going to introduce their own version of Spider-Man this time, and that means that this Spidey is not going to be Tom, Andrew, Or Tobey! This might even be opening more portals to a bigger multiverse of Spideys, and we just cannot wait for it!

    CONCLUSION

    CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we would be proud to say that this movie might actually be the key to opening and introducing several more amazing characters in the MCU, all while connecting the universe of Venom and Morbius. Madame Web’s character has so much potential that if portrayed correctly, she could potentially be the main head of the Spider family and new Spider-Man movies! We just cannot wait for this movie to release, so please, Sony, make it as well as you can because we are keeping our hopes high this time!
