The Alien franchise began in 1979 with the film titled the same and paved a path for up to six more films. The first two films, Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), were received quite well by critics and fans alike. But unfortunately, Alien III (1992) brought all that appreciation to a halt. The last three films Alien Resurrection (1997), Prometheus (2012), and Alien: Covenant (2017), had average performances but still could not match the first two films of the franchise in terms of execution and storytelling. The Aliens comic books are just as popular with the fans as the films. The franchise has had so many issues published by Dark Horse Comics that it is hard not to associate the two, but there is a new guy on the block with whom the comics may take a newer, better tangent.
A new start for the Alien universe
In December of 2020, Marvel Comics officially acquired 21st Century Fox, obtaining rights to the Alien franchise. During this time, a new comic issue by Marvel was announced and it was said to be published by March of 2021. It is finally that time of the year and the brand-new Alien comic, under Marvel Comics, looks terrifying and exciting all at once in its first-look images. Marvel has described their the Alien comics issue as a deep-dive into the “never-before-seen corners” of the world of the Xenomorphs. The artwork for this comic has been created by Salvador Larroca and the writer’s credits go to Phillip Kennedy Johnson.

What we know about the issue so far
The comic will be focusing on the character of Gabriel Cruz who is trying his best to fit into the normal world and reconnect with his estranged son post an alien attack he survived. Now retired, Cruz wishes to focus on the mundanities of life on Earth, but it is not as easy-going for him as he had hoped. The nightmarish Xenomorphs are not gone and no one around can be trusted. Writer Johnson is very happy to have been a part of Marvel’s Alien and consequently be associated with the new-age additions to the franchise. Alien #1 arrives on 24th of March and the next issue is set to release tentatively in August of this year.
