The documentary, directed by Daniel Roher, premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival to critical and popular acclaim, winning the crowd award in the U.S. Documentary division as well as the Festival Favorite Award. On Rotten Tomatoes, it now has a perfect score of 100 percent. Ward has been reporting extensively from Russia and Ukraine, particularly on Navalny-related issues, for some years. In light of recent developments, Warner Bros. and Fathom have decided to give Navalny — the documentary about Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was assassinated in August 2020 — a special release on April 11-12 in over 800 cinemas.
