But unlike cases involving missing white women, like those of Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito, whose disappearance spurred a nationwide manhunt, many of these genuine crimes have gone virtually unreported. Never Seen Again, a new documentary series, seeks to alter that.
Terrance Williams, a Black man of 27 years old, vanished in Naples, Florida, in 2004 after being placed in the back of Steven Calkins’s police vehicle. At first, the white former officer of the Collier County sheriff denied ever having met Terrance. Later, Calkins modified his account, claiming that he had left Terrance at a nearby Circle K petrol station. According to the new docuseries
Never Seen Again, over twenty years have passed, and Terrance’s mother, Marcia Williams, is left with more questions than answers. Mexican immigrant Felipe Santos vanished in 2003, and the first episodes of Never Seen Again weave his story throughout. The 23-year-old was last spotted going into the back of Calkins’s patrol car, much like Terrance. Santos was allegedly dropped off at the same Circle K by Calkins.
