Vesemir fights a swarm of flying and undead monsters in The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, many of which fans of the television series and video games will be familiar with. Theo James from Divergent, Lara Pulver from Sherlock, Graham McTavish from House of the Dragon, and Mary McDonnell from Battlestar Galactica all appear in the prequel anime film, which Han Kwang Il directed. Nightmare of the Wolf narrates the tale of the young witcher as he unearths a monster-ridden mystery threatening the very life of the witchers in Kaer Morhen, with a focus on Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor, in his prime.
The anime movie takes place in the Northern Kingdom Kaedwen, where Vesemir and his fellow witchers have established a residence in the historic keep, Kaer Morhen. In exchange for payment, the witchers kill various kinds of monsters, bringing brief tranquility to the populace of the realm. As morally dubious witcher Deglan and mage Reidrich take it upon themselves to produce new mutant crossbreeds to guarantee that the witchers will continue to find employment in the kingdom, the declining population of these monsters turns into a significant point of contention in Nightmare of the Wolf.
Even if a handful of the monsters have been redesigned, the hybrids in Nightmare of the Wolf are blatant allusions to characters from The Witcher video games and books.
