Irina Rimes is a well-known Moldovan singer/songwriter who is now one of the four coaches/judges on VoceaRomaniei, Romania’s version of The Voice. The HBO Original On My Way with Irina Rimes will premiere on March 18 and will follow the acclaimed vocalist.
Irina, who was born and reared in the Republic of Moldova, has been singing since she was a toddler. Following her participation in the Moldova Star Factory competition, the artist relocated to Bucharest. In interviews, Irina has indicated that her family encouraged her interest in music, particularly her father and paternal grandmother, the latter of whom, according to Irina, “used to be a member of a church choir and I remember how she would sit on the stove and sing carols to us.”
From a young age, Rimes showed an interest in writing and composing: “When I was in grade zero, I began writing poetry. At home, I remember learning to sing, write, and read.” She went to Soroca to study at the “Constantin Stere” Theoretical High School until 2010, after which she graduated from Chișinău’s Academy of Music, Theater, and Plastic Arts. Irina Rimes competed in the talent program Fabrica de staruri in 2012, where she reached the finals.
Irina realized she had a natural ability for music composition, which led her to write her own songs and genuinely express herself to the world. Her debut single, “Visele,” soared to the top of the Romanian mainstream charts. Furthermore, the song remained at #1 for months, establishing itself as the summer’s anthem. Irina Rimes is also Romania’s first female composer of a musical trilogy, “Iubiri Secrete.” “IubireaNoastraMuta,” “Da Ce Tu,” and “Haina Ta” were among the three tracks released in 2016.
In addition to performing and writing, her own songs, the artist also contributes to the works of other Romanian singers such as INNA, Antonia, and Andra. “Despre El,” her debut album, was published in 2017. The CD, which comprises ten tracks and a short film, is based on Irina’s own memories, feelings, and emotions. “Cosmos,” Irina Rimes’ second studio album, was released on December 10, 2018, through Global Records and Quantum Music. Irina wrote all twelve songs on “Cosmos,” just like she did on her debut album.
Warner Bros Animation hired the artist to deliver the Romanian voice of WhatevraWanabi in the animated film The Lego Movie 2 in 2019.
