Parallels, a fantasy drama from the Walt Disney streaming service, was created by Quoc Dang Tran, who also authored the Canal+ criminal drama Nox. He’ll serve as showrunner and co-write alongside Anastasia Heinzl, a newcomer to the industry.
According to Deadline, it’s part of a slate of European originals created for Disney+.
The six-part documentary follows four young friends on the French-Swiss border whose lives are flipped upside down by an LHC – the world’s largest particle collider – experiment.
The Universe’s rules are dismantled in a brief second, and time, space, and multiverses are all jumbled together. The teenagers will do everything they can to figure out what happened and reverse the clocks. The inexplicable event sends the group of 14-year-olds into parallel realms, forcing them to race back home before their lives are irreversibly changed.
Tran’s Damôn Films and Empreinte Digitale, the firm behind the French sci-fi thriller Missions, which aired on Shudder in the United States and whose second season was co-produced by AMC Networks, are producing the project, which has recently begun production. Raphael Rocher and Eric Laroche formed the latter, with Rocher serving as executive producer on Parallels.
Tran has written for popular French dramas like The Bureau and comedy like Call My Agent! and Kabul Kitchen. ICM Partners and Film Talents represent him.
The film PARALLELS follows the narrative of Bilal, Romane, Samuel, and Victor, four friends whose lives are turned upside down after a mysterious occurrence splits them into separate eras. The four adolescents will do all in their power to figure out what has occurred and return to the carefree innocence of their previous life.
