Let’s cut to the chase, shall we?

    What Is A Predator Clan?

    What Is A Predator Clan

Yautjas have been observed hunting both independently and in groups. It is undeniable, however, that they are stronger when they are unified than when they are split. As a result, some Yautjas band together to create a clan in order to boost their chances of survival and successful hunts.

The clans are usually comprised only of men, but there have been several all-female clans as well, such as the Widow Clan. The Yautjas belonging to one clan spend their time on a huge mothership that could measure up to a thousand meters in length. And the clan members address each other as brothers or brother warriors. However, even within a clan, the members are divided into various social segments depending upon experience and age.

As you’d be familiar, in the Yautja circles, a clan member is only as good as his last fight. So, Yautjas in a clan has to constantly prove themselves to gain the respect of others or to get better facilities in the mother ship, such as private quarters. Two clans may compete against each other without a sense of enmity. However, there are a few clans that are each other’s mortal enemies, such as the Super Predator Clan and the Jungle Hunter clan

    Why a Clan?

    Why a Clan

The Yautjas establish clans based on many commonalities such as appearance, technical standards, customs, code of honor, and so on, just as humans do based on race, religion, ethnicity, social rank, and so on. While most clans abide strongly by the Yautja code of honor, there do exist a few clans that have discarded the code. These clans often invite enmity from the Yautja society in general.

Becoming a part of a clan becomes crucial for a young Yautja because it is usually through a clan that they can participate in the coming of age ritualistic hunt of Xenomorphs. It is only after slaying a Xenomorph and marking themselves with its blood that a Yautja is considered an adult and allowed to mate. But once in that position, a Yautja is free to remain a part of the clan or go on a quest alone. For instance, a Yautja named Djinn operated alone in Afghanistan.

    Who Can Form A Clan?

    Who Can Form A Clan

Clans are often created when a Yautja desires to do so and has the necessary strength and authority. Often, a Yautja from an established clan decides to start his own clan, but it is only because of his prowess that other Yautjas join the clan. Clan chiefs will sometimes choose other Yautjas that are Elites or Leaders to start their own clan.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the clan leader’s authority and position are unquestionable and absolute. It has often been seen that a younger Yautja has contested a clan leader for the latter’s position and defeated the latter to win the rank of a clan leader. In other cases, when a clan leader becomes captive or unworthy of leading a clan, the next strongest member of the clan takes charge.

This is very similar to the functioning of Dothraki from Game of Thrones. If you’d remember, when Khal Drogo fell off his horse, he was considered unworthy of being called a Khal. Similarly, when humans captured Dachande or Broken Tusk in the comics Aliens vs. Predators, the younger YautjaTichinde nominated himself as the de facto clan leader, and since he was the strongest, the others accepted his authority. Likewise, several bad blood Predators have often created their own clans, for instance, the Killer Clan.

How Can A Predator Join A Clan And What Is The Structure of A Clan?

How Can A Predator Join A Clan And What Is The Structure of A Clan

Yautjas are extremely unusual to be born into clans. So, the best hypothesis is that they find a clan once they’ve reached a certain age and proven themselves worthy of one. A mother normally looks after a newborn Yauutja or a pup, after which a selected member of the group teaches them the basics of hunting. From this point onwards, they look for clans.

They are included in a clan only after proving a basic level of finesse and skill, after which the clan leader teaches them further and sends them on hunting rituals until they get blooded. Naturally, every clan has several types of Yautjas, including Young Bloods. These are the Clan Leaders, Elites, Temple Guards, Young Bloods, etc. Interestingly, the Temple Guards don’t participate in hunts and are responsible for the maintenance of peace in the clan and the protection of the clan leader.

Furthermore, there are Ancients with an overabundance of knowledge and experience in the clan who majorly serves as a guru, guiding younger Yautjas, including Clan Leaders. Interestingly, Clans are not always restricted to Yautjas and some may accept beings from other species. For instance, Machiko Noguchi, a human, was inducted into his clan by a Yautja named Dachande just before his death. Her story is a brilliant one, and to learn more about her, check out our video titled Machiko Noguchi—The First Human Predator With Unimpeachable Courage and Honor Explored.

The Status of A Clan And How A Clan Interacts to Other Clan Members?

The Status of A Clan And How A Clan Interacts to Other Clan Members

With so many clans, the chance of conflict between a few of them is unavoidable. As a result, an unwritten social structure emerges in Yautja culture, according to which clans are ranked; for example, the Elite Clan is made up of the most prolific and competent hunters, and they appear to outperform and outrank most other clans.

Similarly, the Dark Blade Clan was famous for its lethal pieces of technology, and the Super Predators were both feared and hated by others. Oftentimes the Yautja Council pits two or more clans against each other to find out which one of them is the stronger clan. On the other hand, several clans may come together to participate in a Xenomorph hunt, but they may fight for the best hunting locations, etc.

    Yautja Family Groups Within Clans

    Yautja Family Groups Within Clans

We don’t see many females in Yautja civilization since it is fundamentally patriarchal, yet within a clan, there may be many male members from the same family. In terms of familial connections, however, honour and code can become quite severe.

For instance, if a Yautja performs poorly in battle or turns into a bad blood Predator, his father is often ostracized from the community and his son is treated harshly. But the clans themselves are monarchial in nature. We have had a Predator named Prince, which signified his social status and the fact that he was a high-born. Yet, a clan leader had the freedom to choose his heir in the event of an untimely death or retirement. But, any Yautja could challenge the clan leader for the mantle.

    Time For The Real Deal

    Jungle Hunter Clan

    Jungle Hunter Clan

The Jungle Hunter clan is the most well-known, with members who have acted in many movies. When the Jungle Hunter Predator chased and attacked Arnold Schwarzenneger’s Dutch and his squad in the original film, it was our first encounter with a member of the Jungle Hunter Clan.

The Jungle Hunter activated his self-destruct device to keep Dutch from slaying him and save the Yautja tech from falling into human hands. However, the event led to increased respect for humanity in Yautja’s eyes.

Later, in the 2010 film Predators, we met the Crucified Predator in the Game Preserve Planet maintained by the Super Predators, another Yautja from the Jungle Hunter clan. Through the Crucified Predator, it was made certain that the Jungle Hunter Clan and the Super Predators shared a blood feud. Well-known members of this clan are the Crucified Predator, Jungle Hunter, Unnamed Jungle Hunter, Young Jungle Hunter, Renegade Predator, and Apex Predator.

    Los Angeles Hunting Party

    Los Angeles Hunting Party

The Los Angeles Hunting Party, often known as the Lost Tribe, was another well-known tribe from the movies. Greyback, a Predator, commanded the clan, which first appears in Predator 2. The City Hunter Predator has arrived in Los Angeles and became embroiled in a gang war with the cops.

In the end, Danny Glover’s character of Lieutenant Mike Harrigan managed to kill the City Hunter Predator in his own mother ship. It was here that Greyback appeared with his clan members, namely Boar, Borg, Guardian, Scout, Shaman, Snake, Stalker, and Warrior.

They picked up the body of their fallen warrior, and Greyback gave Harrigan a flintlock as a mark of respect for his win in the fight with the City Hunter. Interestingly, Snake was the elder brother of a vicious Yautja named Viper, who was also the leader of the Serpent Clan.

    Dachande’s Clan

    Dachande’s Clan

Dachande’s Clan originally appeared in the Alien Vs. Predator comic book series, with Machiko Noguchi, the first human Predator. Dachande travelled to Ryushi with his clan and seeded the planet with Xenomorph eggs so that the Young Blood Predators might take part in the ritualistic hunt and earn the Blooded title.

However, what they didn’t know was that the Ryushi had recently become home to a colony of ranchers from Earth. The entire affair was an elegant mess because not only did the humans get sandwiched between Xenomorphs and Yautjas, most members of Dachande’s Clan died during the hunt while humans captured Dachande himself.

While Dachande was in captivity, a Young Blood Predator named Tichinde took over as the de facto leader and started to massacre unarmed women and children. He was killed by Dachande when a doctor freed him, but Dachande himself got killed during a battle with a Xenomorph Queen.

In the end, he would mark Machiko Noguchi’s head with his clan’s insignia because of the courage, valor, and skills she displayed in fighting the Xenos. After this point, Dachande’s clan would be led by another leader named Top Knot.

    Super Predator Clan

    Super Predator Clan

Super Predators are larger, stronger, and have greater weapons than ordinary Predators, as their name implies. In the 2010 film Predators, the Super Predator Clan made an appearance. They are known for preserving the Game Preserve Planet and bringing in members of diverse species from many worlds to serve as worthy opponents, in addition to having a blood rivalry with the Jungle Hunter Clan.

The Jungle Hunter Clan lives by the Yautja Code of Honor and never compromises their honor, no matter what the situation. However, the Super Predators are not really interested in honor, and they hunt only for the thrill of hunting; this essentially makes them Bad Bloods.

Their prime concern is testing their own limits against the deadliest of opponents from across the galaxy, often creating new and enhanced pieces of technology to become stronger and deadlier. The notable members of the Super Predator Clan are Falconer, Tracker, Berserker, and presumably the Four-Armed Predator.

As a young Predator, Berserker was a prodigy of sorts and was the youngest Yautja to become a Young Blood and slay a Xenomorph. He quickly rose in ranks and soon left the Clan he belonged to so that he could start his own Clan. Tracker was an unsociable loner who liked to spend most of his time training his hell hounds. He would use his hounds to track and flush out the prey. Falconer had an aptitude and love for engineering and technology and had built himself a falcon-like device and used it to stalk and hunt his prey.

    Tartarus Clan

    Tartarus Clan

On the planet LV 797, or Tartarus, the Tartarus Clan was founded. The planet had been claimed by the WeylandYutani Corporation, but when the Yautjas learned that it was home to an Engineer Juggernaut, they fought the colonial marines to recover the Juggernaut’s technology. The known members of the clan were Cracked Tusk Predator, Hive Wars Predator, Hornhead, Ahab, and Mutated Yautja.

After becoming an elder, Ahab became obsessed with finding the race of Engineers. To track them down, he befriended a human named Galgo. The Mutated Yautja initially appeared as a regular Yautja belonging to the Tartarus Clan but soon got exposed to the black liquid and suffered heavy mutations due to it. He became a force to reckon with and also developed cannibalistic tendencies.

    Widow Clan

    Widow Clan

One of the two all-female Yautja Clans is the Widow Clan. Hatori, a Yautja, was the clan’s leader. Because she comes from the widow clan, it’s safe to assume that Yautja women are monogamous.

However, from the Yautja lore, we know that female Yautjas mostly spend their time taking care of the infant Yautjas until they are old enough to begin their training. In the comics, she captures and tortures a synthetic named Liliya but later, Liliya and Hashori join hands to fight humans who own and control hordes of Xenomorphs.

    Wounded Clan

    Wounded Clan

In The Rage War trilogy, the Wounded Clan debuted, and it looked to be made up of both male and female Yautjas. Yaquita, a violent female Predator who was also a bright scientist, was an essential member of the clan.

Interestingly, another member of the clan named Kalakta may be a descendant of the Lost Tribe or the Los Angeles Hunting Party. The Rage War Trilogy is a fantastic piece of work that deals with a race against time as the Yautjas and humans join hands to fend off the Rage Aliens.

    The Killers

    The Killers

The Killers were a vicious clan of Bad Blood Predators who were regarded as heretics in Yautja civilization. They would only engage in killing rather than hunting, therefore demonstrating no respect. Naturally, The Killers were giving a terrible name to Yautja society, so the Yautjas dispatched special Yautjas to deal with them.

It was believed for quite a while that this notorious clan was defeated and all its members killed, but they survived and continued their operations from space, often destroying any colony they could set their eyes upon. One such massacre of a human colony was recorded on camera and the colonial marines contacted Machiko Noguchi to seek her help in eliminating the Killers.

    Top Knot’s Clan

    Top Knot’s Clan

Top Knot used to be a member of Dacande’s clan, but following Dacande’s death, he founded his own and even recruited Machiko Noguchi. Despite his deep conviction in the Yautja code and honour, he was responsible for the deaths of numerous humans, which led to Noguchi’s betrayal of the clan. Top Knot’s clan usually went on Xenomorph hunts on various planets.

They also captured a Xenomorph Queen so that she could be used as a source of eggs. When Noguchi found out proof of the existence of The Killers, she joined a party of colonial marines and came to Ryushi to seek help from Top Knot’s clan, but at this point of time, the clan was being led by another Yautja named Light Stepper.

    Gotham City Hunting Party

    Gotham City Hunting Party

The Gotham City Hunting Party had arrived in Gotham in pursuit of a good opponent, as the name indicates. The majority of the clan members, however, remained on the mother ship over Gotham. But one Predator named the See-Through Slasher started slashing his victims and the bizarre modus operandi caught the attention of Batman, who would later become the Slasher’s prime target. After a long and intense battle, Batman managed to subdue the Slasher, but he chose to give away his life in ritualistic suicide. The Gotham City Hunting Party would return to Gotham two more times after this.

    Isolated Clan

    Isolated Clan

The Isolated Clan, also known as the Antarctic Clan, came to Earth so that three of its Young BloodYautjas may take part in a blooding rite in an Antarctic Yautja temple. Scar, Celtic, and Chopper were the Predators.

Celtic and Chopper die rather early deaths and fail to get blood. Scar, on the other hand, got blooded but also received wounds from the Antarctic Queen, to which he later succumbs. Furthermore, he was impregnated by a facehugger just before his death. His clanmates came to pick up his corpse, but a Predalien chest buster came out of his body and wreaked havoc in the town of Gunnison in Colorado.

    Elite Clan

    Elite Clan

The Elite Clan was one of Yautjas’ most prestigious clans, and its members were given the title of Elite. It was the clan that the well-known Yautja Dark chose to join, although his acceptance was not easy. The clan leader named Spartan made Dark fend off against a horde of Xenomorphs before finally accepting him.

Later, they would receive a distress signal from a clan of Young Bloods. The Elite Clan left for BG 386, where they fought against hordes of Xenomorphs and colonial marines. Most of them died in battle, but Dark proved himself as a worthy Elite by killing a Praetorian and a Predalien.

    Dark Blade Clan

    Dark Blade Clan

In the video game Predator: Concrete Jungle, the Dark Blade Clan made an appearance. Scarface, the most famous of the group, had gone to the New Way City to hunt, but in the end, he shamed his species by enabling humans to take Yautja technology and failing to kill himself in ceremonial sacrifice.

He was picked up by his clan and sent on exile to a planet with violent creatures. The Dark Blade Clan would retrieve Scarface from the planet to offer him a chance at redemption. He was asked by the leader to retrieve the stolen Yautja tech from humans and kill anyone who wished to use it. The clan was most famous for its high-end technology. Apart from Scarface, the known members of this clan were Long Spear, Stone Heart, and Swift Knife.

    Smiley’s Clan

    Smiley’s Clan

Smiley was the head of his Predator Clan, which sent a Xenomorph Queen to fertilise a world where humans already lived. Smiley’s Clan appeared to be friendly with humans at first, but once all of the current Xenomorphs were killed, the clan saw humans as nothing more than hosts for future Xenomorphs.

    Council of Ancients

    Council of Ancients

The Council of Ancients is a ruling body that controls all Predators, rather than a clan. They are the highest leaders of all predator clans, and the Council has jurisdiction over all of them. Clans must request all rights and privileges from the Council, including Exclusive Hunting Rights. The Council is also the guardian and defender of Yautja culture and customs.

If a Predatorturns into a Bad Blood Predator, the Council assigns Predators to hunt down the Bad Bloods. Also, abominations like Predaliens have to face the wrath of the Council, which leaves no stone unturned to destroy the Predaliens. The most famous Predator from this Council was the Ancient Nuke Carrier, who was tasked with performing the Purification Ritual by detonating a nuke at the center of the hive of a Predalien Queen, the ultimate abomination. He successfully achieved his objective but lost his life in the process.

    Council Of Successors

    Council Of Successors

It’s vital to remember that the Council of Ancients does not reign indefinitely, and they will eventually require successors. The Ancients chose their successors by throwing two opposing clans against one other, although both tribes must possess a specific level of talent.

Once the clans are chosen, they are subjected to two tests of stealth and bravery. In the test of stealth, they are supposed to complete a task, such as getting the head of a colonial marine without alerting many humans. The test of bravery requires them to infiltrate and destroy an entire Xenomorph hive. In Alien versus Predator: Extinction, one such clan fought against another clan called Poachers.

    Rogue Space Tribe

    Rogue Space Tribe

Spiked Tail, Laser Shot, and Borg came up with the Rogue Space Tribe. Spike Tail and his company were expelled from their previous clan and labelled as rogues due to their usage of illicit weapons. The tribe acquired space and time travel technology at some point in the past, allowing him to go to the furthest ends of the cosmos and therefore extend the diversity of prey.

Furthermore, this enabled them to evade capture or assassination at the hands of Enforcer Predators. In their quest to get deadlier and more advanced prey, Rogue Space Tribe started hunting mechanical and technologically advanced beings instead of organic beings. Although hunting mechanical beings was tougher, they would keep the remains of their victims and use the technology to build themselves better and advanced weapons systems. And yes, Borg once belonged to the Los Angeles Hunting Party.

    Ryushi Hunters

    Ryushi Hunters

When Machiko Noguchi learnt of the Killers’ existence, she realised the Colonial Marines would need some significant help if they were to fight this rogue group. They needed partners who could match the rogues’ strength, discipline, and brutality. She flew to Ryushi with a few marines in the hope of finding Top Knot and his clan but instead met the Ryushi Hunters.

The colonial marines and Machiko helped the Ryushi Hunters capture a Xenomorph Queen, which proved their allegiance to the common cause against the Killers. In the end, the leader of the Ryushi Hunters doused Machiko’s sword in acidic blood and removed the insignia that Broken Tusk had marked on her forehead. These Predators proved them as a band of extremely skilled warriors who were tactical enough to take down one of the most notorious Bad Blood Clans of Yautja history.

    Young Blood Pack

    Young Blood Pack

The Elite Clan arrived to BG 386 after receiving a distress signal from a group of Predators, as previously stated. It was the Young Blood Pack, which didn’t have a Predator Elder to command them. These Predators met their end because WeylandYutani accidentally unleashed several Xenomorphs, including a Queen. Realizing that there was no escape from the massacre, they sought help from whoever was listening.

    Conclave of Hish-Qu-Ten

    Conclave of Hish-Qu-Ten

You might be shocked to find that the Yautjas were not always the best hunters in the world. They were formerly a more animalistic race known as the Hish. However, an insectoid race known as the Amengi conquered their world. The Amengi were a parasitic race who began looking for other worlds to capture and exploit after their planet’s resources were depleted.

The Amengi were technologically advanced and were quick enough to enslave the Hish, use them as food and for hunting. To make the competition fiercer, the Amengi started to make biological changes to the Hish, giving them deadlier physical traits. Eventually, there came an albino Hish called Kaail, who changed the way things were.

Kaail organized the Hish into a race of hunters who went on to kill all Amengi. After killing the most powerful Amemgi, Kaail wore his head as a trophy, and that’s how he became the first or the Alpha Predator. It was possibly Kaail who started the Conclave and ruled over the Hish for numerous years.
