The Star Wars franchise may face another setback, as recent news about Rian Johnson’s trilogy reveals. Having already worked on some great films such as Knives Out (2019) and Looper (2012), Johnson has become quite the busy man, juggling more than one project at any given time. Although this is amazing for him, it bears some bitter pills for fans of Star Wars as his lack of free time is preventing him from getting much work done on the trilogy he confirmed to be working on.
An unstable graph for the trilogy’s development
In December of 2020, fans were almost convinced that this trilogy is no longer happening due to Johnson’s silence during many project announcements at Investor Days. However, the director was quick to assure them that it will be happening for sure, and now, in conversation with Sariah Wilson, he reveals that it may take much longer than expected, thanks to the other projects he is currently occupied with. Three years ago, just before the release of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Lucasfilm confirmed this trilogy, but since then, they have parted ways with almost as many filmmakers as they have gotten onboard, which drove fans to conclude that the cancellation of this awaited trilogy could be due to legal reasons. Now, we can only wait for any further news on it from Johnson himself.

Why Johnson is the perfect choice of director for this project
Star Wars: The Last Jedi tells the story of Rey, who begins training for the ways of life of a Jedi under Luke Skywalker and as a result spark the flames of war once again between the Resistance and the First Order. Given how this film crushed it at the Box Office, it is only obvious that a trilogy from the director would excite fans enough to keep them going till any official announcements are made, no matter how long it takes.
