Rob Zombie Teases Grandpa Munster’s New Look

Rob Zombie, the writer/director of The Munsters, teases his Instagram fans with a photo of Grandpa Munster’s trademark hair in anticipation of his impending feature film adaptation.

For the upcoming The Munsters revival, writer/director Rob Zombie teased Grandpa Munster’s wig. The film is based on the same-named sitcom from the 1970s. Herman (Fred Gwynne), his wife Lily (Yvonne De Carlo), her father Grandpa (Al Lewis), their niece Marilyn (Beverly Owen, who was replaced by Pat Priest), and their son Eddie are the members of the family (Butch Patrick). They’re just like any other American family, except they’re all monsters.

NBC sought to revive the show, which ran from 1946 to 1966, under the title Mockingbird Lane in an attempt to modernise it. However, due to the revival’s overall tone, the pilot was not picked up for a series. Zombie stated earlier this year that he would be writing and directing a film based on the original series. It will be released on the same day in theatres and on Peacock’s streaming service.

Zombie teased Grandpa Munster’s wig for his upcoming revival on Instagram. They’re now working on the wigs for the film, he said in the post. People were ecstatic to see the character come to life in the comments.

While Grandpa is the character’s nickname, his actual name is Sam Dracula, Count of Transylvania. His memories of Transylvania are referred to as “the good old days” by him. Grandpa has two cars, one of which is called DRAG-U-LA, a reference to which is made in Zombie’s song “Dragula.” Given this allusion, it’s evident that the singer and director is working on a personal project. The character’s identity as Count Dracula has been mentioned several times during the series, and it will be intriguing to see how he is shown in the remake.

Zombie seemed to be having a lot of fun peeking behind the scenes of The Munsters.
