The Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts is a very popular manga amongst young female readers in Japan. The Japanese manga is written and illustrated by Yu Tomofuji. The first publication appeared in November 2015, followed by the last in October 2020.
The manga series has been serialized in the Hana to Yume Japanese magazine, under publication by Hakusensha. After a little time, the Yen Press in North America also obtained a license to publish and translate it into English. They launched the first publication in May 2018.
Apart from North America, the manga has obtained a license in Germany also by Carlsen Verlag. There is a total of 15 volumes now. The last was completed on April 26th, 2022. Seeing the growing popularity of manga, it has been announced that an anime television series will follow. The series will be released in 2023.
Sariphi sits next to the king despite being a human and establishes her dominance through her fearless nature. The story reveals Sariphi’s journey from being bait to the consort of The King of Beasts and queen of demons. The story very closely follows the theme of beauty and the beast. Following a similar romance, and shift in character. The art used to draw the character is also similar.
What will be the plot of the anime?
The popular manga follows the theme of feeble humans versus beasts who feed upon female humans. In order to retain their assertion of power, the beasts and other demons have long followed the tradition of taking a sacrificed human girl as their food. Every year a female is sacrificed for their consumption. The king of beasts enjoys his dominance, but not for long.
The tables turn at the time of the 99th sacrifice. The girl to be sacrificed rose to protest. She presents a tough fight against the King of Beasts. Sariphi, a fearless young girl, doesn’t scream and calmly handles the sacrifice. Her courage and patience entice the king. Hence, he commands them to stop her sacrifice. What are the reasons which made Seriphi’s character so strong? It is revealed that Seriphi has no background and no people to go back to. The king also relates to her isolation and hence stops her sacrifice. King Leonhart is not a pure breed. He is half-human and half-beast.
The manga series will be followed by an anime series. The storyline will follow a constant struggle between humans and demons. The beasts feed on a female human every year. The story faces a major plot twist as a human comes and changes the mind of the beast King. Sariphi, the girl who was brought to sacrifice causes this shift of mindset.
She rose from bait to the queen of the beast kingdom. The viewers will find similarities with the fantasy movie: Beauty and the beast. In both these series, we see that it’s the personality of the lady which brings calmness to the beasts.

The fans will come across many of their favorite characters from the manga series. Some of them are- Sariphi, Leonhart, Clop & Cy, Anubis, Princess Amit, Ilya, Jormungand, Bennu, Lanteveldt, Joz, Gwiber, Tetra, Set, Fenrir and Nir aka Gleipnir. It has been confirmed that the anime will be aired in 2023.
