When Is Shock Docs: The Visitors (2022) Releasing?

With a new umbrella series called Shock Docs, which is slated to show throughout the fall, Travel Channel travels back to the most notorious horror cases our nation has ever seen. The series offers a fresh look at authentic and horrifying accounts of paranormal experiences. During today’s virtual Comic-Con@Home for San Diego Comic-Con, the Travel Channel panel for “Wonder Women: Superstars of Paranormal” made the announcement. Devil’s Road: The True Story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the history of the country’s first modern-day paranormal investigators, will launch the spooky season on Labor Day, Monday, September 7 at 9|8c.

Ed and Lorraine Warren looked into countless hauntings during the course of their 50-year tenure. The Amityville Horror house, the actual Rhode Island residence used in the Conjuring movies, and the Bridgeport Poltergeist are just a few of the more well-known incidents they documented. A quiet couple named Ed and Lorraine dedicated their lives to battling demonic entities that reside in families or homes. Ed was a demonologist and Lorraine was a clairvoyant.

The Warrens appeared frequently on television in the 1970s and 1980s to discuss their cases and to raise awareness of the supernatural and paranormal realms that surround us. Their goal in life is to establish the reality of God, evil, and the devil. Along the way, they invented numerous methods that are still employed in the industry today, including advanced electromagnetic devices, audio and video recording equipment, and even developed their own television programme.

In this two-hour special, their daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tony Spera, are interviewed. They share never-before-aired audio of Ed interviewing people for the Bridgeport, Connecticut, poltergeist case and a rare video of the Warrens assisting a young woman who was about to become possessed by demons. Additionally, Tony gave the filming team access to his collection of Seekers of the Supernatural films. There are numerous hours of Tony listening to Ed and Lorraine talk about their work.

According to Matthew Butler, general manager of Travel Channel, “Travel Channel fans have an insatiable desire for the classic cases that even paranormal investigators venerate.” In these “shockumentaries,” we begin from the beginning and examine why certain locations and cases continue to be the most well-known — and haunting — in the nation.

Each episode of Travel Channel’s Shock Docs delves into a real-life American horror story and offers a historical perspective. We search the entire nation for the most thoroughly recorded paranormal encounters—stories captured on film and audio that perfectly convey the unadulterated dread of coming into contact with evil. The Exorcism of Roland Doe and the actual hauntings at the Amityville Horror House are two more Shock Docs that will air later this fall.

In addition to starting the New England Society for Psychic Research in the 1950s and running their own Occult Museum, a unique collection of haunted artefacts that included the well-known Annabelle haunted doll, Warren and her husband Ed investigated thousands of cases throughout their careers (and were among the first investigators involved in the contentious Amityville case).

Grandson Lorraine Warren passed away calmly and softly last night, joining her beloved Ed, according to Chris McKinnell’s Facebook post. She laughed and smiled all the way to the finish. She was my idol and my angel, and I will miss her dearly. Please join us as we salute her lovely soul and celebrate her life. Keep in mind to value your loved ones while you still can. God bless you all and we’re grateful.

The Warren’s pioneering organisation, the N.E.S.P.R., which is still active today, quickly confirmed the news on Facebook. Although more than a dozen films have been based on the work of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the investigator/demonologist team gained wider notoriety with The Conjuring films. The popular television show was based on the couple’s court cases in the past and starred them (portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively).

Global tributes are being paid to the late pioneer by fans and admirers, including our own Katrina Weidman, who wrote:

As we learn of Lorraine Warren’s demise, we remember her. I had the privilege of working and getting to know Lorraine. I gained a lot of knowledge from her as a young woman starting the paranormal industry. Regardless of whether you agree with her work or not, Ed and Lorraine helped open the doors for every single investigator…

The production company for Val and Cheer was Boardwalk Pictures. Renner serves as executive producer alongside Patrick Costello, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, Rory Millikin, Romilda De Luca, Andrew Fried, and Lillegard. For Disney+ Day on September 8, 2022, “Growing Up” will be accessible on Disney+. In the ground-breaking hybrid docuseries “Growing Up,” ten compelling coming-of-age stories are used to investigate the challenges, triumphs, and complexity of adolescence.

Ed and Lorraine both developed an early fascination with the supernatural. Ed grew raised in a house that he thought was haunted as a child. Early on, Lorraine also became aware of her clairvoyant skills. When Ed was a kid, he remembered his house’s doors opening by themselves and odd lights beginning to develop. Lorraine remembered when she was about nine years old. She had seen auras around people before and thought they were commonplace.

In the course of his World War II service in the Navy, Ed Warren experienced a close call with death. At the age of 17, Ed joined the Navy. A few months later, in the North Atlantic, Ed’s ship was involved in an accident with an oil tanker. All of the guys on the ship had to jump overboard as a fire broke out. Ed prayed for assistance while he was in the chilly water, and he was soon rescued. He went home after that event and proposed to Lorraine.

Ed Warren painted in the fine arts. The pair gained entry into the homes they wanted to inspect using his painting skills. They would research houses they believed to be haunted, then drive to the residence. Ed would give Lorraine the picture once he had finished painting the house. She would knock on the door and present the painting to the home owners as a means of entry. They would gather more information about the residence and hauntings once she started a dialogue with the owner. Their career as investigators started with this procedure.

Before accepting a case, the Warrens made an effort to rule out any possible logical or physical reasons. When people claimed to be having paranormal experiences, they did not just accept those claims at face value. Before continuing with the case, Ed would go to the scene and utilise every method at his disposal to rule out any reasonable possibilities.

In 1974, more than 20 years after Ed and Lorraine started their practise, the first case that attracted public notice happened in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where they both grew up. Mary Pascarella, a psychic family friend of the Warrens, got in touch with them to let them know about the paranormal phenomena Jerry and Laura Goodin were seeing in their neighborhood of Bridgeport. Crowds gathered in front of the house on Lindley Street as soon as word spread about the poltergeist that was haunting it. This was the first time the Warrens had to deal with such a significant media presence while attempting to carry out their mission.

Both Ed and Lorraine have devoted Roman Catholics, and Ed eventually gained notoriety as the only lay Catholic authority on demiurge. Inherent in their fervent faith was a belief in the paranormal and a world beyond. In numerous exorcisms, the Warrens worked closely with the Catholic church, and their faith was a key factor in their inquiries.

Ed and Lorraine became well-known in the general public and even made appearances on well-known television programs including The Tom Snyder Show, The Merv Griffin Show, A Haunting, and Scariest Places on Earth. The Warrens sought to demonstrate the reality of the devil as their celebrity increased through media appearances, speeches, and college lecture tours. Throughout their careers, The Warrens appeared on television frequently, and Lorraine even had an appearance in The Conjuring.

The Warrens attracted admirers as well as detractors. Lorraine was put through rigorous testing by parapsychologists at UCLA in an effort to show that her skills were real. Dr. Thelma Moss served as the team leader for the scientific investigation of Lorraine. They concluded that Lorraine was a “light trance medium” after conducting in-depth research.

During their paranormal investigation of Jack and Janet Smurl, the Warrens came upon a succubus. Ed discovered when looking into the Smurl family that the force haunting them was a succubus, a particular word for a demon that exclusively targets men. Other prominent investigations were a Raggedy Ann doll that was given to a nursing student named Annabelle and the Perron family home in Harrisville, Rhode Island. The story of the Perron family served as the basis for The Conjuring, and the tale of the doll Annabelle resulted in a trilogy set in the same fictional world as The Conjuring.

When the Warrens’ attempts to expel the succubus from the Smurl’s home were unsuccessful, Pope Benedict XVI sent them reinforcements. Pope Benedict XVI was known as Cardinal Ratzinger during the Smurl Haunting. The Warrens told the Catholic church about the haunting that was taking place at the Smurl home. An exorcist from the Catholic church was sent by Cardinal Ratzigner to the residence to perform the Ritual Romano, a sort of exorcism.
