Is “Silverton Siege (2022)” Based On A True Story?

Netflix will release Mandla Dube’s latest film, Silverton Siege, produced by Pambili Media, to its 222 million customers in 190 countries on April 27th, International Freedom Day.

Mandla Dube, the director, and creator of The Italian Job Strike Back, Angel Heart, and Umtunzi we Ntaba, thinks that Silverton Siege is his best effort to date.

The hope is that African filmmakers would be given more chances to decolonize the story of who we are. I also hope that the Silverton Siege three can inspire today’s youth to believe that they have the potential to change the world and, most importantly, that their tales matter.

The film is set in 1980 and is based on a true story that spurred the global “Free Mandela” campaign.

It stars Thabo Rametsi, Noxolo Dlamini, and Stefan Erasmus as the Silverton trio – Stephen Mafoko, Humphrey Makhubo, and Wilfred Madela – three young guys with little to lose.

Arnold Vosloo, a South African heavyweight, will compete at Silverton Siege, as will a number of other well-known South African fighters, including Tumisho Masha, Michelle Moslakae, and Elani Dekker.

The film’s suspenseful plot sees the freedom fighters take refuge in a South African bank in Silverton, Pretoria, after learning that they are being pursued by the police as a result of a sabotage effort.

The stakes are high when they kidnap a local bank and the civilians who work there, demanding Nelson Mandela’s freedom in exchange for the release of the terrified captives. The genuine Silverton Siege took place in a Volkskas bank, according to sahistory.org.za, and the trio’s demands included the release of a guy named Mange, R100 000 in cash, and an aircraft to fly them to Maputo.

Silverton Siege will surely spark debate regarding the historic event and the Silverton Siege trio, and will undoubtedly remind South Africans and the rest of the globe that people’s stories matter no matter what.

Netflix has acquired “Silverton Siege,” an action thriller based on the true story that fueled the global Free Mandela movement.

Thabo Rametsi, Noxolo Dlamini, and Stefan Erasmus star in the film, which is directed by Mandla Dube (“Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu”).

Rametsi, Dlamini, and Erasmus star as the Silverton Siege trio, three teenage independence warriors with nothing to lose in 1980. The group finds themselves seeking refuge in a South African bank in Silverton, Pretoria, after a high-speed automobile chase with the police following a foiled sabotage mission. The stakes and emotions are high when the bank and its customers are held hostage and Nelson Mandela’s freedom is demanded in exchange for the release of the convicts.

Arnold Vosloo, a well-known South African heavyweight, appears in the film alongside Tumisho Masha, Michelle Mosalakae, and Elani Dekker, among others. Pambili Media is in charge of production, with Walter Ayres and Dube acting as executive producers.

Dube has also worked as a cinematographer on a variety of films, shorts, and television shows, including the Netflix series “Jiva!” (2021). For “Kalushi,” he was nominated for a South African Film and Television Award in the category of best director.

The premiere of “Silverton Siege” will take place on April 27, South Africa’s Freedom Day.
