Simon McQuid directed ‘Mortal Combat’ is all set to hit the theatres this year on the 16th of April and be available to stream on HBO Max a month after theatrical release. The film is the second movie adaptation of the famous ‘Mortal Kombat’ video game series originally developed by Midway Games. The first-ever adaptation of the same was the 1995 film with the same title and directed by Paul Anderson. The most recent game release was ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ in 2019 that NetherRealm Studios developed. The upcoming film is rated ‘R’ due to heavy violence, and a trailer is dropping tomorrow.

What we know about the film so far

Mortal Kombat revolves around an inter-galactic, mysterious tournament that sends out an invite to an earthling named Shaolin Monk Liu Kang for an upcoming martial arts competition. A live poster has been revealed on the official Twitter handle of Mortal Kombat Movie that shows an armour-clad Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. He holds a sword of ice as it lets off frost smoke. Warner Bros. has quite a handful of movies coming out this year and what’s so special about all of them is that they will be available to stream on HBO Max on the same day as the theatrical release, or just a few days after.
