“Be cautious what you wish for, Parker,” says Doctor Strange in the Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser, and it’s evident that many of the rumours that fans have been clinging onto for months are starting to come true.
We already knew Alfred Molina would be reprising his role as Doc Ock in the Spider-Man universe, and the trailer did not disappoint in revealing him at the end of the trailer, but it was another reveal prior to this that confirmed the return of another, even older Spider-Man villain: Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.

While Molina’s involvement, as well as that of Jamie Foxx as Electro from Andrew Garfield’s time in the Spidersuit, has been widely reported for some time, there has been no official confirmation of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s whispers, nor of the Green Goblin, the other great villain of Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man film. The teaser trailer revealed the return of the Green Goblin and Willem Dafoe.
A little round pumpkin bomb bounces across the tarmac and explodes, inflicting havoc, just before Molina’s Doc Ock appears. The distinctive sound of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin cackling may be heard in the background throughout this brief sequence. While Marvel is renowned for throwing a few curveballs at fans in their trailers, and not everything in this cut is precisely as it seems, it is as sure a sign of Dafoe’s return as we are going to see for the time being. The mystery of Garfield and Maguire remain however.
The second final trailer gives a lot more information than the first teaser. It might be the same with Spider-Man, and we could see three Spider-Men sharing screen time in an attempt to take down some of their biggest adversaries from throughout the multiverse a few months down the road. Recent rumoured leaked photographs purport to show both former actors in the part on a blue-screen set together, however there has been no confirmation.
The movie will hit big screens on the 17th of December.
