The oscar-winning filmmaker known for producing films such as Malcolm X (1992) and BlacKkKlansman (2018) has teamed up with Netflix for his latest horror project Gordon Hemingway & The Realm of Cthulu. Stefon Bristol will direct the film (Brutus, 2012 and See You Yesterday, 2019).
This is not a first-time partnership for Lee and Netflix since they partnered last June for the producer’s film Da 5 Bloods. The film was received positively and garnered critical acclaim. The National Board of Review named it the best film of 2020. It has also achieved several other accolades due to its excellent execution. Co-producers Lloyd Levin and Beatriz Levin will produce Gordon Hemingway &The Realm of Cthulu alongside Lee. The initial screenplay was procured by the Levins from screenwriter Hank Woon and brought to Lee and Bristol.
About the film
The film is set in 1928, East Africa. It is pivoted around Gordon Hemingway, who is the protagonist. Hemingway is a Black American gunslinger. He is rogue and teams up with Princess Zenebe of Ethiopia, who happens to be an elite warrior. Together, country’s kidnapped agent from what is referred to as an “ancient evil”.
About its Director
UTA and Ellipsis Entertainment Group represented Bristol. Like Lee, he has worked with Netflix in the past, having debuted with the 2019 time-travel adventure drama film, See You Yesterday. The film won the Independent Spirit Award for “Best First Screenplay.” Bristol worked alongside screenwriter Fredrica Bailey (represented by UTA and Lighthouse Management) for the film. Lee produced it. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Visual-Effects and Production
Goodbye Kansas (an award-winning company excelling in visual effects) will develop the effects for the film. Apart from Lee and the Levins, Oliver Oftedal and Tom Olsson will also co-produce the film on behalf of Infinite Entertainment (the production fragment of Goodbye Kansas).
