Where Can I Watch Stand Out: An LGBTQ+ Celebration (2022)?

Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival has added fresh acts to its calendar, including top stand-up performances, Netflix series cast events, and a free outdoor fan experience, with less than four weeks till the festival opens. Netflix, in collaboration with Live Nation, is producing the festival, which currently features over 250 live acts spanning over 30 locations throughout Los Angeles.

Stand Out: An LGBTQ + Celebration, hosted by Billy Eichner, is one of the event’s additional highlights. The event will take place in 2022 (rather than 2020), following the Netflix controversy in October 2021, when LGBTQ employees staged an office walkout over what they perceived to be transphobic content during Dave Chappelle’s Netflix comedy special The Closer. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos faced backlash after two internal letters defending Chappelle and arguing that content like The Closer did not “directly equate to real-world harm” were sent out on the same day and leaked days apart.

Stand Out: An LGBTQ+ Celebration, an upcoming comedy event taking place during Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival, will be hosted by our comedian Billy Eichner.

Eichner is celebrating LGBTQ+ comedians during Netflix’s latest comedy festival while working on the Judd Apatow-produced gay rom-com Bros, which is currently set for a September 2022 release. Wanda Sykes, Tig Notaro, Margaret Cho, Eddie Izzard, and Sandra Bernhard will be among the guests on Stand Out, which Eichner will host. This event will take place at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 7.

Trixie Mattel and Bob the Drag Queen, both from RuPaul’s Drag Race, will be at the Stand Out event, as will LGTBQ+ comics Joel Kim Booster, Sam Jay, Patti Harrison, Matteo Lane, Fortune Feimster, and Solomon Georgio, to name a few. Stand Out is characterized by Netflix as follows:

A once-in-a-lifetime celebration and showcase of the best in LGBTQ+ comedy. Legends, headliners, and up-and-comers will take the stage at The Greek Theatre for an incredible night of queer stand-up comedy. You won’t want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

On April 30, Wanda Sykes will perform a solo concert, and Margaret Cho will headline her own act on May 6. Drag brunches with Race Chaser co-host Alaska and Willam will be held throughout the event.

Hannah Gadsby, an Emmy winner, chastised her fellow comedian Dave Chappelle, Netflix, and Sarandos for using her in a note to employees as an example of the company’s dedication “to ensuring underrepresented populations aren’t defined by a single story.” Sarandos later said he mishandled the replies as trans staffers and more openly criticized The Closer and the company, in what was his second unsuccessful attempt to quell the outcry over Chappelle’s nasty and repeated insults about the trans and LGBTQ+ communities.

“First, straight up front, I botched up the internal communication — and I don’t mean just mechanically,” he told Deadline. I believe I should have made sure to notice that a segment of our employees was suffering greatly as a result of the decision made, and I should have recognized this anguish before delving into any reasoning. I say this because I hold them in high regard and like their contributions to Netflix. They were in pain, and I should’ve noticed it sooner.”

An LGBTQ+ Celebration: STAND OUT: (recorded) Bob the Drag Queen, Eddie Izzard, Fortune Feimster, Gina Yashere, Guy Branum, James Adomian, Joel Kim Booster, Judy Gold, Mae Martin, Margaret Cho, Marsha Warfield, Matteo Lane, Patti Harrison, River Butcher, Sam Jay, Sandra Bernhard, Scott Thompson, Solomon Georgio, Tig Notaro, Todd Glass, Trixie Mattel, Wanda Sykes, and more to be announced soon will host an all-star night of Page Hurwitz, Wanda Sykes (Push It Productions), Brian Graden and Dave Mace are the producers of Stand Out (Brian Graden Media).
