Plot- At order to hide Jews in a hospital connected to the Vatican during the Holocaust, three Roman Catholic physicians invented Syndrome K, a highly infectious and fake illness.
Synopsis: Three brave Italian physicians worked during the Nazi occupation of Rome in the midst of World War II to spare the lives of numerous Jews by persuading the Nazis that certain Jewish patients at their hospital, which was close to the Vatican, had a fatal illness they dubbed Syndrome K. However, Syndrome K was entirely made up; it never happened, making it the only sickness in human history to actually save lives.
Interviews with survivors and survivors’ ancestors are included in this moving documentary, including the 98-year-old Adriano Ossicini, the last living doctor, and Pietro Borromeo, the hospital’s chief medical officer. Syndrome K skillfully combines expressionistic reenactments, infrequent interviews, and archive material to create a stirring portrait of bravery in the face of Nazi cruelty.
