James Cameron and Gale Anna Hurd founded the Terminator movie series in 1984. The Franchise produced several outstanding time travel films with profound justifications. Fans are excitedly anticipating Terminator 7 because while the rest of the films explore potential other narratives, the first was based on the causal loop idea.

The rest is what happens in the first movie, which concludes with the death of the Terminator.
Kyle Reese also dies but has a brief love affair with Sarah Connor, during which Sarah conceives his child. Sarah names this kid John Connor, which infers that the entire effort was to preserve the inevitable future. This is based on the theory of the Casual Loop paradox of time which occurs when a future event is the cause of the past event. Had John Connor not sent Kyle Reese back to the past, he would not have existed.
Similarly, after the destruction of T800, a scientist working in Cyberdyne Systems named Dyson reprograms it from T-800’s remains and creates Skynet. This illustrates how everything is in a loop without any trace of any starting point. With this primary theory established, the other movies revolve around Skynet’s various other attempts to time travel and kill John Connor.
There are alternate storylines stitched in the course of the movie series, like in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, we learn that John Connor is killed in the future, and a new Terminator, T-X is sent to the past to kill his allies. To defend against Skynet’s attack, Kate Brewster, John’s wife, sends a reprogrammed T-800 to protect him and herself in the past. The movie also infers that Judgement Day, or the day Skynet declared war on humans, is inevitable and can only be delayed.
In Terminator Salvation, released in 2009, Skynet is aware of how Kyle Reese goes back in time and makes love to Sarah Connor. This is how John Connor is born, for which Skynet is now after Kyle Reese. The franchise was holding on to one straight timeline where the artificial intelligence, Skynet, and the Resistance rivalled each other to prevent their own extinction till the release of Terminator Genisys in 2015.
The branched-out alternate reality occurred in 2029 when Kyle Reese was about to travel back in time to 1984, which was explained in the first movie. However, this time, before he could travel back, he witnessed John being attacked by another soldier from the Resistance, which created a temporal paradox that altered the timeline.
This twist brought enormous profit to the producers making the film the second highest-selling movie in the franchise and also opening new avenues for the upcoming stories. The sixth movie also showcased an alternate storyline where John Connor was killed by one of the T-800 terminators sent by Skynet through time. In this reality, Sarah and John were relaxing in Livingston, Guatemala, when a T800 arrived unannounced and killed young John.
With these possibilities, fans are waiting to know if Terminator 7 is going to showcase an alternate reality or work as a continuation of the previous movies. The recent Terminator films showcased Arnold Schwarzenegger as ‘pops’- a T-800 who, after losing all purpose in life, decided to live like humans. He eventually sacrificed himself towards the end of Dark Fate, and after Arnold’s presence gets confirmed in the next movie, he might probably portray a new T-800.
However, things can turn out differently and the upcoming movie might be based on a new storyline as no clue about the story has been revealed. Some reports suggest that the upcoming Terminator movie will change everything that we know of and it is going to be a horror one.
